Biography

the start of bodybuilding

As a teenager, Brandon Gerdes first adopted the bodybuilding lifestyle and developed a strong interest in it. At his neighborhood gym, he would lift weights many times each week, gradually changing the shape of his body.

When Brandon was 19 years old, he competed in his first bodybuilding competition and placed second. He then participated in two additional competitions, this time in the Men’s Physique category.

However, when he first began out, Brandon didn’t find it easy performing on stage. It took him years of training and dieting—he was six feet tall—before he started to pose a threat to other elite bodybuilders.

When he first began competing on the stage, Brandon described his weight as follows: “I am a taller competitor, standing at 6 feet tall, and competing as a heavyweight.

I intend to take some time off to become bigger and move up to the super heavyweight division.

Achievement on Stage

With time, Brandon’s physique got better to the point where he started moving up the ranks in every show he entered.

Between 2012 and 2016, Brandon competed in four major competitions, taking first place in two of them and finishing in the top five in the other three.

Powerlifting

Brandon enjoys powerlifting as well as competitive bodybuilding. He sees powerlifting as a sport that will help him reach his bodybuilding objectives.

“At first, I intended to participate in powerlifting competitions as inspiration to strengthen myself and afterward add more muscle for bodybuilding.

My initial interest is in bodybuilding, but powerlifting is a need for me to reach my bodybuilding goals and it’s so much fun!

Brandon participated in one raw weight lifting competition throughout his professional powerlifting career.

Training

Brandon, a powerlifter and bodybuilder, blends the best aspects of the two disciplines to get the most out of his workouts.

Brandon has one day during his week of training where he works his muscles with big weights and few repetitions. Additionally, he performs 8–12 reps on a day when he exercises for hypertrophy.

Brandon strives to switch things up constantly when it comes to the exercises he performs.

To target a particular muscle, he will sometimes solely train using compound motions and other times only utilizing isolation exercises.

Nutrition

Brandon eats a lot of high-calorie, protein-rich foods because they help him gain muscle.

To ensure muscular building, Brandon will therefore typically maintain a little calorie surplus.

However, Brandon will eat fewer calories if competition is soon to be held to burn fat more effectively.

To avoid the breakdown of muscle tissue during this time, he will also make sure to ingest enough protein.
