This simple sushi recipe will teach you how to prepare sushi. It makes a nutritious, delicious sushi roll with mango, avocado, and cucumber.

Sushi is something we enjoy. We enjoy it so much that we rarely prepare it at home, owing to the proximity of Uchi.

This handmade sushi recipe, on the other hand, is a fun kitchen activity to do with your significant other on a Friday night when you’re searching for something new to do together. Furthermore, creating this sushi roll at home is much less expensive than buying sushi from a restaurant.

Sushi Roll-Making Tips

First and foremost, don’t be afraid! Only a bamboo mat and a happy mindset are required for “sushi date night.”

You should be in the kind of mindset to laugh at each other when you have rice trapped between your fingers or your sushi rolls don’t work out properly but are still wonderful.

Prepare your ingredients: sushi rice and fillings, when you’re ready to begin cooking.

Sushi Rolls: A Step-by-Step Guide

While standard white rice is used, I prefer to use healthier short-grain brown rice, which works just as well. Here’s how to put it together:

  1. Combine the rice, water, and olive oil in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil.
  2. Cover, lower the heat to low, and cook for 45 minutes.
  3. Remove the rice from the heat and set aside for another 10 minutes, covered.
  4. Fold in the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt after fluffing with a fork. Cover and set aside until ready to use.

Recipes for Sushi Rolls

My favorite veggie sushi roll ingredients are avocado and cucumber, but the special edition here is mango! I enjoy how it takes the place of raw fish’s soft texture and adds a nice sweet pop of taste.

You might also try blanched asparagus, boiling sweet potato, thinly sliced red cabbage, scrambled egg, or tofu as fillings.

Make sure your fillings are thinly sliced so that a small amount of each item fits neatly in the center of the sushi roll.

P.S. If rolling sushi intimidates you, try making a deconstructed sushi rice bowl with the same great ingredient combo.

Sushi Rolls Making Instructions

It’s time to roll once the rice and contents are done.

  • Because your hands will become sticky, have a small bowl of water and a kitchen towel near your work area.
  • Place one nori sheet on a bamboo mat, shiny side down, and press a handful of rice into the bottom two-thirds of the sheet.
  • Place your toppings at the bottom of the rice (see picture). Overfilling will make rolling more difficult.
  • To tuck and roll the nori, use the bamboo mat. Use the bamboo mat to gently press and shape the roll once it’s been rolled. Place the cut side of the roll to the side.
  • To cut the sushi, use a sharp chef’s knife. Between cuts, wipe the knife clean with a moist towel.
  • Enjoy with soy sauce, ginger, and sesame seeds, or a delicious coconut peanut sauce!
