Chinese dumplings called “fried wontons” are stuffed with meat or other savory ingredients. Although wontons are frequently put into wonton soup, they can also be prepared crisply and served as an appetizer.

Even while the preparation is not challenging, it does require some time (but can be done well ahead of time or even frozen). They are always a hit with the crowd and only take a few minutes to fry once they are prepared.

You can even freeze food before cooking it and then drop it into the air fryer while it’s frozen to save time!

Ingredients & Alterations

Pork stuffing Although this dish calls for pork, you can easily make a vegetarian version with rice or diced vegetables! Alternately, use ground beef, chicken, or turkey in place of the pork.

Wontons Wrappers Wonton wrappers are ideal for creating a delectable bite-sized appetizer.

Dumpling wrappers, egg roll wrappers, or spring roll wrappers can be used in a pinch. To keep them in bite-sized quantities, try chopping them into smaller pieces.

But keep in mind that because spring roll wrappers are so much thinner, they may break more easily as they become considerably crispier.

  • Wonton wrappers are frequently located in the grocery store near the produce or beside the tofu. Ask the grocery store clerk if you can’t find them.
  • To prevent them from drying out, work with just a few wonton wrappers at once and keep them covered with plastic.

Wontons are generally made in the same general way, however, this recipe will demonstrate two different cooking methods: a deep-fried version and an air fryer version.

In a small bowl, first, combine all of the contents.

Wontons: How to Fold

Wonton folding is as simple as 1, 2, and 3.

  1. Center the filling on each wrapper.
  2. Moisten the bottom edge of the wrapper after folding over one end.
  3. To seal, press the top portion of the wrapper against the moistened edges.

Wontons Deep Fried

Let’s deep-fried them now!

  1. Using oil that has been heated to 350°F, fry wontons.
  2. Make sure not to crowd the pan while you cook, and cook both sides until they are crispy golden.

Air frying wontons

Even easier and with less oil is air frying!

  1. Oil should be brushed or sprayed onto each wonton after it has been made.
  2. Cook wontons in the air fryer in a single layer until they are crunchy.
