TLC, a 90s girl group, was co-founded by American singer Crystal Jones (Tender Loving Care). Before the management change, the band was referred to as “Second Nature.”

While still a teenager, Crystal Jones started the band. With the aid of Ian Burke, her friend and manager, she managed to pull it off when she was just 18 years old. Together with Lisa Lopes and Tionne Watkins (T-Boz), Jones founded the group (Left Eye).

After the group had been formed, however, events began to spiral out of control, which forced a name change and the replacement of group members.

Even though Left Eye, who was 30 at the time of his death in 2002, is no longer with us, the rest of the band is still going strong.

These 10 Details About The Singer Have Been Made Public.

1. Crystal Jones was surrounded by music while growing up.

She was raised in Atlanta after being born Crystal Selene Jones in the United States of America. She was, however, exposed to entertainment at a young age because she was born into a musical family.

Her mother was a pianist with “Classical” training who frequently played music throughout the house. Selene had traveled the country on tours while still a teen. She spent some time performing with bands and other artists while on tour in New York and other cities.

Despite having started school, she did not finish it and at one point worked in clubs. In order to support herself before starting her singing group, she also worked odd jobs.

2. She Started Out as a Dancer

Selene discovered that she was leaning more in the direction of the performance because she was surrounded by music. She claimed, however, that she was drawn to both kinds of entertainment. She collaborated with artists like Kool Chip and DJ Chuck Chillout while still in her teen years. She performed in a few videos and worked as a vixen while she was in New York.

3. How the Group’s Formation Idea Originated

The girl band was the brainchild of Crystal Jones sometime in the 1990s. She had an idea while watching some music videos, so she contacted her friend and manager at the time.

Ian Burke, who at the time managed the young woman, acknowledged having a similar thought after speaking with him. With this, they both began the process of assembling the crew. The group’s plan was to launch a movement. The band’s most crucial characteristic was that they would dress in baggy clothing in a “Tomboyish” manner to stand out from the crowd.

Basically, the trio of a rapper, dancer, and singer made up the group. The plan to launch “Second Nature” was based on these ideas. Finding the women who would meet the criteria came next.

Lisa Lopes, a rapper who was the first to join the group, was turned down by Ian when they first met. The manager claimed that Lopes did not appear the part and would not have been appropriate for the concept. Selene insisted he first listen to her, and when he did, he was impressed. She eventually became a part of the group, and her problematic dress sense was changed.

Singer, producer, and author Tionne Watkins was the next to join the girl group. She was unable to attend the gathering with the group’s original members as planned. However, at around two in the morning, Burke, Crystal, and a few other individuals went to Tionne’s house to audition. She impressed them, and as a result, she joined “Second Nature” as the third member.

4. Crystal Jones began singing on her fiancĂ©’s recommendation.

Crystal Jones got engaged and gave birth to a child while still pursuing her career as a girl group member. She was unable to dance as well as she once could because of back pain as a new mother.

Her then-fiance gave her the advice to start singing as a result of this. She was inspired to begin singing after singing around the house demonstrated how talented she is as a singer.

5. She served as the TLC’s “C”

After being managed by Ian Burke and producer Jermaine Dupri, the girls were introduced to singer and songwriter Perri “Pebbles” Reid, who had founded her own artist management company. She started to push to sign the girl group to her management because she was interested in them.

The girl group’s original name was changed to “TLC” with the help of the new management. The phrase “Tender Loving Care” was actually an acronym for the members’ first names. The letters “T” stood for Tionne, “L” for Lisa, and “C” for “Crystal.”

Even though two of the group’s original members are no longer a part of it, the group still goes by this name today.

6. Jones and Peebles and the Group’s Breakup

Crystal, the founder, and Pebbles, the new manager, had a disagreement because Crystal had concerns about their contract. The singer claimed that Peri was attempting to win the girls over with clothes and upscale meals.

When a contract was handed to the girls, Crystal asked if she could take it home to her mother so she could read it because she didn’t understand what was written on it. It should be noted that the girls were still in their teen years and required guidance.

Crystal refused to sign the contract because Pebbles forbade her from having a second look at it. As a result, the other girls started cooperating closely with the new leadership while leaving Crystal out of it. She eventually lost her TLC status and was replaced by Rhonda “Chilli” Thomas as time went on.

7. Long ago, she stopped singing.

Selene pursued a “almost” solo career after the split with the group. She composed songs that were given to other singers, but she wasn’t sufficiently compensated for it. She decided to shift her attention to other things, so she stopped singing.

Jones Crystal even lost her home and was traumatized by seeing how well her band was doing. She lost what was so important to her and was unable to return to the entertainment scene.

The mother continues to sing in church, but that is the only time she performs. Nothing of the sort.

8. Author Crystal Selene Jones

Having written a book about her life and journey, the former TLC band member is also an author. A collection of memoirs with the working title “TLC…My Story: The Awakening of a Shattered Dreams” was released on Amazon some time in 2014.

She told her story in the book by describing her time spent traveling with her bandmates and the events that followed her departure.

9. She was misrepresented in the film “CrazySexyCool.”

The story of the girl band’s formation and how they got from their teenage years to where they were was told in the movie “CrazySexyCool,” which was released in October 2013.

However, Crystal was portrayed in the film as having terrible singing abilities. It was for this reason that Jones is said to have been cut from the group. The new manager, Pebbles, is credited with making the choice to terminate the founder.

10. Why She Took Her Side of the Story Over Two Decades to Tell

Regarding the reason she was kicked out of the group, Crystal Selene Jones had been mum. She remained silent for more than 20 years, and when she did speak up, she refuted many assertions.

The former performer was inspired to speak out by the 2013 film. She conducted interviews and refuted some aspects of the movies that cast her in a negative light in an effort to explain her side of the story.

The assertion that she couldn’t sing was one of the most crucial things she attempted to refute. She also clarified the fact that she and the band’s founding members attended L.A. auditions. They didn’t try out for L, according to Jones. However, the only people Pebbles and her husband auditioned for were them.
