A straightforward spice mixture that you probably already have in your pantry is chili powder!

A hearty pot of chili is the ideal supper for any occasion, whether it’s a family gathering or a game day. After falling short one chilly winter day, I began blending my chili powder and haven’t looked back since!

One of my favorite wintertime dishes to prepare is chili. It is so beautifully satisfying and warms your body after a cold day that my family always hopes there will be leftovers for the next day!

You’ll wonder why you’ve never created your chili before because this method is so simple.

How Is Chili Powder Made?

This chili recipe couldn’t be simpler… Simply mix your spices in a basin after combining them. I store it for several months in the pantry in a sealed jar.

The spice paprika, which is formed from dried, ground mild peppers, gives chili its sweet flavor. The optional ingredient smoked paprika is called for in this chili recipe.

You may skip it if you don’t have it, but it gives the combination a nice smoky depth of flavor (and you can usually buy just as much as you need in the bulk aisle area).

If you like it hot, feel free to add a little extra cayenne, which I use to provide just a hint of spice (be careful, a little goes a long way).

You can completely omit the cayenne or substitute a small amount of black pepper in its stead if you want a very mild chili spice.

The ingredients for making your chili powder are probably already in your cabinet, and you’ll adore its flavor!

To give whatever you are preparing a delicious kick, try this homemade chili powder recipe in a variety of meals.

It comes together quickly—less than five minutes—and if you store it in a glass jar, it keeps well for up to a year. To keep it fresh, I suggest keeping all of your spices, including this one, away from the burner.
