Biography

Sports Starting Points

Monica was a very busy girl growing up. She was born and reared in Fort Hood and San Antonio, Texas. Monica learned to ride from a young age thanks to the professional horse training business her mother managed.

Her lifelong passion was gymnastics, which she also loved very much.

When Monica started high school, she brought her passion for sports with her and joined the volleyball, horse riding, and track and field teams.

After graduating from high school, she chose to enroll in an area college in San Antonio to study equestrian science to work for her mother’s company.

Developing a Love for Bodybuilding

Monica’s first love was horseback riding, but in 1991, she became interested in bodybuilding after seeing a picture of Marla Duncan triumphing in a national tournament.

Monica was so taken aback by Marla’s beauty and physique that she felt fitness competitions were where she belonged.

She went to the neighborhood gym where she gradually started to develop a physique suitable for amateur tournaments. She started to have faith in her talents after 4 years of gym training and adherence to a professional diet plan.
