When Renata Benigno engaged a coach in September 2014 to explore how far she could push her strength and muscle growth, she first got interested in professional bodybuilding.

Renata seized the opportunity and won her first show after taking the stage for the first time. From that point on, she began participating frequently and took home honors like German and Bavarian Overall Champions.

Biography

First Place in the First Competition

On August 7, 1985, Renata Benigno was first born in Germany. After winning the 2015 IFBB Overall Bodyfitness World Champion title, she gained widespread recognition.

Renata, though, wasn’t always enthusiastic about competition and bodybuilding. Her journey began in 2014 when she was 29 years old.

She initially started working out in the gym to test the limits of her physique. But after hiring a coach and observing her performance “skyrocket,” she understood she could succeed on stage.

Renata competed at her first show, the 2015 International Franconian Championships, many months after she began her training.

Renata had no expectations, so when her name was announced as the Bodyfitness Division winner, she was completely taken aback.

Renata’s first success led to her developing a bodybuilding obsession. She started looking for new events right after winning her first show.

World Champion in Bodyfitness

Renata won the 2015 Bavarian Championships, which were held at Gersthofen, a few months after she won the Franconian Championships.

Naturally, Renata knew she was on the right track when she had two consecutive initial victories. She wasn’t finished yet, though.

Renata took part in three more competitions till the end of 2015. She continued her winning streak after the achievement in Gersthofen by winning the 2015 German National Championships.

She was named Vice Ms. Olympia Amateur Europe (Prague) in October 2015, and she finished the year as the IFBB Overall Bodyfitness World Champion.

Balancing the Sport and Personal Life

Renata claims that she works out eight times a week for roughly 90 minutes each. In addition, she takes care to prepare her meals for the upcoming week while working a full-time job.

Renata claimed that because she loves bodybuilding so much, balancing her personal life with the sport is not difficult for her.

She did, however, note that since she doesn’t have time for other interests in her life, it can be a little irritating at times.

Regarding her future goals, Renata stated that she just wants to “keep having fun” and cherish every moment, whether it is in her private life or on stage.

Training

Warm-Up

Every one of Renata’s workouts starts with a thorough warm-up, which could include cycling, body-weight exercises, stretches with a bar, etc.

Renata should pay particular attention to this because she enjoys carrying large objects. Before engaging in big lifts, she always makes sure her body is sufficiently warmed up.

8 Exercises Each Week

Renata works out eight times a week, two of which are cardio and the other six are strength-related. Her fitness sessions typically last 70 to 90 minutes. Renata will take a day off once a week to rest.

She enjoys working out in the early morning, about 5:00. Renata now feels revitalized and prepared to “hit the iron.” She will train after work, at around 7:00 PM, if that is not doable.

Training Approach

She concentrates her exercises on the triceps, shoulders, and legs. These are some of the areas Renata prefers to highlight and improve.

She prefers to move slowly while exercising to focus on the mind-muscle connection. The bench press is an exception, where Renata prefers to go hard.

She performs an abdominal workout to round out each training session. She will often perform 3–4 sets of 30–40 reps of weighted crunches before completing a session.

Weight vs. Reps

For the most part, Renata prioritizes volume overweight. She will train with a lot of repetitions and give up some excess weight as a result.

Renata frequently performs super-sets to increase volume; her favorite is the shoulder press followed by front raises.

But occasionally, she will mix up her high-rep workouts with sessions using a lot of weight. She claims that by doing this, she causes the body to go into shock and promotes more growth.

Renata typically lowers the weight even more and switches the supersets for tri-sets throughout her competition preparation. She claims that by doing this, she can highlight her striations and tone her body to the fullest extent.

Off-Season vs. Competition Planning

Renata consumes between 2700 and 3000 calories per day during the off-season. She ensures that every calorie comes from high-quality, entire foods.

She claims that maintaining a low body fat percentage will help make the time leading up to the competition less difficult for her.

Renata reduces her daily caloric intake to 1600 kcal while preparing.

Nobody can work in a profession that takes more than 40 hours a week of dedication while also spending free time training for bodybuilding competitions.

Renata Benigno, however, shows that it is still feasible to do so if your priorities are in order.

She is aware that by doing all of this, she forfeits time that she might otherwise spend socializing with friends or engaging in enjoyable activities. Her love for the sport, though, takes precedence.

Because of this, she has been able to accomplish what she has, and she is now able to reap the rewards of her hard work.
