BARLEYmax

BARLEYmax is a specially-innovated grain whose fiber content is higher that of the other whole grains. People at CSIRO started research in this direction in the late 1990s. And by mid 2000s, their nutritionally superior product was ready. It has a low glycemic index and causes a positive change in the various biomarkers of bowel health.

This new grain is not genetically modified. It is GM free and has its development by conventional breeding processes. It delivers high amounts of resistant starch and other dietary fiber content.

Nutritive value

This product has double the amount of fiber as that in conventional grains. Its glycemic index is half that of oats. Carbs form 65% of oats. Its sodium content is only one-third of that in oats. It has 40% more dietary fiber compared to that in oats.

The resistant starch is 4 times more than other grains. The protein is 1.5 times that in oats while its antioxidant property is 2 times of that of oats.

Food and Drink Federation has revealed that only 9% of adults in the UK consume normal amounts of dietary fiber daily. Most of them have less of this essential fiber. Fiber can prevent heart diseases, cerebrovascular accidents, type 2 diabetes, gut inflammation, and cancer. Normal recommended intake of fiber is 28 to 42 g daily.
