Release of the Colin Pitchfork Rape Case

On November 21, 1983, Colin Pitchfork skipped her usual route home from babysitting in favor of a shorter one. Her parents and neighbors spent the night looking for her after she failed to return. She was discovered killed and raped the following morning on a lonely walkway known locally as the Black Pad. Following an investigation, authorities were able to connect a semen sample retrieved from her body to a person with type A blood and an enzyme profile that only 10% of males had. A second 15-year-old girl, Dawn Ashworth, left her house on July 31 to visit a friend. When she didn’t show up when she was supposed to at 9:30 pm, her parents called the police to report her missing. Her body was discovered two days later in a rural area close to Ten Pound Lane. She had endured brutal beatings, rape, and being strangled. Semen samples showed the same blood type as the initial attack, and the modus operandi was the same.

Prison

Pitchfork entered a plea of guilty to two counts of murder, two counts of rape, two counts of indecent assault, and one count of conspiracy to obstruct justice. In 2009, his minimum sentence was cut by two years. Pitchfork was transferred to an open prison three years ago, even though he was turned down for parole in 2016 and 2018.
