CHEESE This recipe calls for both cheddar and parmesan cheese, but feel free to substitute any other type of cheese that you have on hand! Swiss, Mozza, or pepper jack!
MIX IT UP
- It’s such a flexible and easy-to-make bread! You can give it a little extra kick by adding some garlic powder, or you can switch out the cheddar for Swiss cheese to give it an entirely new flavor profile.
- Try baking your loaf with some cooked ham or bacon added to it before serving! In addition, sun-dried tomatoes, jalapenos, and olives would all be delicious additions to this dish.
Bread with Cheese: How to Make It
One of the most popular types of bread to make at home is cheese bread. The steps are identical to that of preparing biscuits sans the rolling.
- Whisk dry ingredients (per the recipe below) together. Make slashes in the butter.
- Add eggs and milk and whisk.
- Bake according to the instructions on the recipe or until a skewer made of wood comes out clean.
What to Accompany Bread and Cheese
Obviously, sandwiches made on bread topped with cheese are some of the best.
It goes well with any kind of pasta dish, and you can even have it for breakfast toasted and topped with poached eggs if you choose. Prepare a delectable meal and accompany it with a piping hot cup of tomato soup!
On the other hand, you may cut the slices into strips and then dip them in marinara sauce. Or you could cube it, bake it, and make croutons out of it!
How to Store It
Cheese bread should be stored in an airtight container on the countertop or in the refrigerator – or anywhere else where it will remain dry and free from other scents – to maintain its freshness.
Toasted cheese bread with a hole in it and butter that has been melting.
Can It Be Frozen?
- Cheese bread can be frozen as a whole loaf or as individual pieces, giving you the flexibility to consume exactly what you require. Just make sure that there is no leakage of air.
- Before sealing the bread, make sure it has had the time to totally cool off. This will help prevent it from becoming soggy.
