Shrimp Scampi: What is it?
A recipe for creamy shrimp uses shrimp (or prawns) in scampi sauce.
Scampi sauce is straightforward garlic, butter, and wine sauce. As the first course for a dinner gathering, this dish can be served over pasta or even on its own.
Parmesan cheese is frequently used in shrimp recipes, but I didn’t use it in this one because it wouldn’t be entirely “genuine.” I like to leave it out on the table so that guests can add it if they so choose.
Recipe for Shrimp Scampi
You can prepare the entire meal, including the sauce and shrimp, in roughly the same amount of time it takes to boil pasta.
Shrimp (obviously), garlic, crushed red pepper (you may skip this if you’re sensitive to spice), butter, olive oil, white wine (can also be substituted with chicken stock), salt, pepper, and parsley are the only things you’ll need.
- Cook the garlic and butter with the shrimp until aromatic. Add the shrimp and simmer for a short while. Place aside.
- ADD WINE – Pour some wine in and let it simmer for a while.
- SHRIMP TOSSE: Add the shrimp back to the pan and toss it to reheat. Serve after adding parsley.
No wine? No issue!
You can still eat shrimp even if you run out of wine or don’t want to use it. Simply substitute chicken stock or broth for the white wine. Although the flavor will be slightly altered, it will still be excellent.
Wine for shrimp scampi
A fresh, dry white wine that you’ll love sipping with your fantastic meal is your best option. Any of the following may be to your liking:
- Dry Riesling,
- Pinot Grigio,
- Viognier, and
- Sauvignon Blanc

Quick Tips
- Purchase deveined and peeled shrimp.
- While serving shrimp over pasta, I prefer shrimp without tails because they look prettier that way. Shrimp with tails are fantastic as an appetizer.
- The recipe may be assembled in a matter of minutes because all of the ingredients—including the garlic—can be prepared up to 24 hours in advance.
- Include crusty bread or crostini if serving as an appetizer so that guests may mop up the scampi sauce.

Simple Recipe for Shrimp Scampi
This Easy Shrimp, which takes only 10 minutes to prepare, is perfect for midweek meals!

Ingredients
- 4 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes or to taste
- 1 pound shrimp peeled and deveined
- ½ cup dry white wine
- ½ cup fresh parsley chopped
- kosher salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Over medium heat, add the butter and olive oil to a big skillet.
- Add the red pepper flakes and garlic after that. For one minute, cook.
- The shrimp should be added to the pan and coated. Cook the shrimp for two to three minutes, or until they are brilliant pink and no longer translucent.
- Transfer the shrimp to a plate and keep warm using a slotted spoon.
- Cook the wine in the pan for two to three minutes. Cut the heat off.
- Once more, add the shrimp to the pan and mix with the sauce to coat. Add some parsley to the surface. To taste, add salt and pepper to the dish. Serve right away.
Notes
You might wish to start with fewer red pepper flakes if you like a less spicy dish.
