- A time-saving pro, raisin sauce can even be prepared in advance and then simply warmed up on the stove or in the microwave.
- This sauce is not just for ham; it also goes well with chicken breasts, pig loin, and pork tenderloin. It is incredibly adaptable. Or use it to glaze these mouthwatering roasted game hens!
Components & Alterations
SAUCE Cloves, apple cider vinegar, and brown sugar are boiled down. Whiskey, brandy, bourbon, or rum can be added; the alcohol will burn off.
For a delectable rum raisin sauce to serve with homemade ice cream or a traditional pound cake, add rum essence.
SEASONINGS If preferred, whole anise and cardamom work well as substitutes for the fragrant and somewhat spicy cloves. To achieve the finest flavor profile for any sauce, always use fresh spices.
ADD-INS Raisins come in both purple and yellow colors. You can substitute or include currents, dried cranberries, chopped walnuts, and finely diced pears in the sauce.
Count your cloves as you add them to the recipe to be sure they’re all gone. Knowing how many help ensure that nobody receives a fiery taste because the color can sometimes mix in with the raisins.
