Why These Baked Pears Will Win Your Heart
- Simple to prepare; all you need are 7 ingredients and 10 minutes, and the oven will take care of the rest.
- Texture and flavor: Baked pears melt in your mouth because they are so tender. Pears’ natural sweetness is brought out, and their texture is improved.
- There are no processed sugars in this dish, making it one of the healthiest desserts you can prepare.
- Reheats well; leftover baked pears can be kept in the fridge overnight and reheated to serve with breakfast the following morning.
What Pears are Best for Cooking?
Any type of pear that you have access to can be used. These pears are excellent choices because they withstand cooking well and don’t brown as rapidly when cut.
- Pears of D’Anjou ( red or green)
- Bosc
- Bartlette
- Avoid cooking with comice pears since they tend to disintegrate.
The best way to make baked pears
- Create the topping by placing all of the topping ingredients in a bowl and stirring to incorporate.
- Cut Pears – From the stem to the base, cut pears in half. Cut a slice off the back of each pear to help it sit steadily in the pan after scooping out the centers with a melon baller.
- Pears are stuffed by placing them in a 9-by-13-inch casserole dish skin-side down. Evenly distribute the topping among the pears. Sprinkle with cinnamon, then bake for 25 to 30 minutes at 375°F or until tender.
Pro Tip: To provide the pears a smooth surface to sit on, cut a slice from the back of the fruit. This prevents the pears from moving around or having the toppings pour out while they are cooking.
Typical Questions
Do you allow quick oats?
For this dish, rolled oats—also known as “old-fashioned oats”—are advised. Oats that are cooked quickly or instantly won’t have the same wonderful texture and can appear a little mushy.
Can I use pecans instead?
Walnuts can be used in place of pecans, or you can omit the nuts altogether.
Will an air fryer work for this recipe?
As a general guideline, you can switch from an oven to an air fryer by lowering the heat by 25 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit and cutting the bake time in half. Until the pears are soft, air fry.
To Serve
- Dessert: Serve a pear half with maple syrup drizzled over it or serve a baked pear with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream.
- Breakfast: pour your favorite Greek yogurt into a bowl, top with maple syrup, add a pear, and drizzle more maple syrup on top. The heated pear can alternatively be sliced before being mixed with yogurt.
A popular fall treat is this straightforward Baked Pear Recipe. The warm autumnal flavors and texture of the maple pecan cinnamon topping are added.

Baked pears with maple, pecans, and oats inside Baked pears packed with cinnamon, cranberries, buttery oats, and walnuts. Baking truly brings out the sweetness and flavor of pears, making them melt-in-your-mouth soft. Serve baked pears for dessert with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, or for breakfast with yogurt drizzled with maple syrup.
Ingredients
- 4 medium pears, Bartlette, Anjou, or Bosc
- 1/4 cup rolled oats, not instant oats
- 1/4 cup pecans, or walnuts, coarsely chopped
- 2 Tbsp real maple syrup
- 1/4 cup dried cranberries, coarsely chopped (optional)
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon, plus more to sprinkle
- 2 Tbsp unsalted butter, melted, plus more to grease the pan
Instructions
- With a rack in the middle, preheat the oven to 375°F. Butter a 9×13 casserole dish’s base.
- Rolling oats, pecans, cranberries, and cinnamon are the components of the filling. Combine in a small basin. Add melted butter and maple syrup, then mix to incorporate.
- Pears should be cut lengthwise. With a teaspoon or melon baller, remove the seeds. To create a flat surface for the pear to lay on without rolling, cut a tiny slice from the back of each pear half.
- Place the pears in the buttered casserole dish, then distribute the filling among them equally. Over the pears, lightly sprinkle cinnamon.
- Depending on the size and firmness of the pears, bake uncovered at 375°F for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the pears are soft.
