This recipe for fresh Tzatziki will brighten up any summer supper! It’s excellent on pita, grilled veggies, sandwiches, and more, plus it’s rich, creamy, and full of fresh herbs!
One of the best things about summer is how simple dinner gets. Fresh fruits and vegetables, which are among my favorite ingredients, are in season.
Tomatoes are sweeter and juicier, berries are plumper, peppers are snappier, and our herb garden is at its peak.
When I want to highlight these peak-season vegetables, sometimes all it takes is prepping a sauce to spice them up.
This tzatziki sauce is a fantastic way to show off summer fruit because it’s thick and creamy, vibrant, and full of fresh herbs. So mix everything up, put it on a huge platter with pita and your favorite summer vegetables, and call it dinner!
What exactly is tzatziki?
Tzatziki is a cucumber and salted yogurt dip made using strained yogurt, shredded cucumber, olive oil, garlic, lemon juice, salt, and herbs.
Traditional Greek tzatziki is made with sheep or goat yogurt, but I use standard full-fat Greek yogurt in my recipe.
It’s easier to find in the grocery, and it has the same creamy, thick consistency as traditional tzatziki sauce. For a vibrant, summery touch, I combine fresh mint and dill with the other traditional components.
How to Make It?
The tzatziki sauce was introduced to me at Greek restaurants, but I’ve since discovered that it’s really simple to make at home. It’s now one of my must-make summer sauces, alongside pesto. Here’s how it’s done:
- To begin, grate the cucumber. To give my final sauce texture and plenty of green flecks, I use the biggest holes on a box grater.
- Squeeze the shredded cucumber to remove the water. This step is crucial for creamy tzatziki; if you ignore it, the water from the cucumber will divide your sauce. Squeeze the cucumber over the sink or lightly press it between kitchen towels or paper towels.
- After that, combine everything! Combine the cucumber, yogurt, lemon juice, garlic, olive oil, salt, and herbs in a mixing bowl and chill until ready to use.
That’s it!
How to Use It?
Once you’ve made your tzatziki sauce, you may utilize it in a variety of ways. I eat it simply as a snack with fresh vegetables and pita or crackers. This is a great way to serve it, or add it to your next crudité plate. It’ll be a hit with your visitors!
You could also spread it on pita wraps, and serve it alongside a Mediterranean salad like tabbouleh or couscous salad, or top falafel, falafel burgers, or a flatbread with it.
Finally, serve it with pita bread and plenty of grilled vegetables for a wonderful and simple summer dinner..
