Obesity and overweight is increasing in the world. It has reached an epidemic proportion. There are many who do want to lose weight but find themselves unable to do so. There are many reasons for this inability to slim down. But if one follows the simple advice of diet expert Michael Mosley, it will not be difficult. What is his secret advice to lose weight easily?
Obesity and the world
People in the world are gaining weight considerably. This is especially so in the developed nations of the world such as the USA, the UK, Middle East countries, and Europe. The reasons for this is the excessive consumption of fried, fatty and starchy foods as well as ultra processed foods. Simultaneously, there is reduced exercise. People have started leading a passive life indoors and glued to television or computers or smart phones. Outdoor life has reduced remarkably and all this has taken a toll on individual health.
There are some who do want to lose the excessive weight. They try but are unable to do so. Diet expert Michael Mosley has some simple tips on how to be at ease and yet lose weight. He strongly advocates removing these three food groups from the daily diet in order to throw away the excess flab.
Refined sugars, sugary foods and hidden sugars
The first thing is to cut back on refined sugars and sugary foods and drinks. Doctors invariably advise slimmers on it. But what often they forget to also make slimmers aware of is about the hidden sugars. These sugars are present in many ready to consume foods and drinks such as commercial smoothies and breakfast cereals as well as in sauces and ketchups.
Starchy carbs
Slimmers should also lower the intake of starchy carbs such as white pasta, white rice, white potatoes etc. In short, all the white stuff in foods should be out of the diet. Michael advises:
“Switch instead to whole grains including bulgur (cracked wheat), whole rye, wholegrain barley, wild rice and buckwheat. Brown rice is OK,”
He stresses that start eating protein rich legumes such as lentils, kidney beans, chickpeas and the like. These are good for health. They also make one feel full after a meal. Hence the amount of calories consumed reduces and weight also comes down.
Processed meats and foods
People relish processed meats and many find it difficult to stop eating it. Michael recommends avoidance or strict restriction of consumption of this meat. He says:
“Ultra processed foods include chicken nuggets, burgers, chips, pizzas, hotdogs, pre-packaged meals, mass-produced ice cream, sweets, crisps, energy bars, bakery goods, biscuits, margarine and pretty well anything that says ‘instant’,”
Mediterranean diet
Michael advises people to follow a Mediterranean diet. This includes healthy foods such as fruits, whole grains, vegetables, beans, seafoods, and nuts. He calls it the best diet to eat. He tells slimmers to have 5:2 diet (five days normal eating and 2 days fasting with only 500 calories per day). According to him:
“Fast days are easier than ever to shop and prepare for. It’s also handy if you’re watching your wallet as well as your waistline,”

Nowadays, he advises all slimmers to have low carb, Mediterranean foods on all 7 days of the week. Hence, he says:
“That means more olive oil and nuts, as well as plenty of eggs, full-fat yoghurt, oily fish and vegetables.
“Make sure you fill up on protein and veg on your fasting days. Protein is very satiating and you can eat a lot of vegetables for very few calories,”
