Why Is This Recipe So Delicious?
- It’s a comprehensive supply of plant-based protein! Tempeh is an excellent source of important vitamins, including B12, and is an excellent addition to any vegan or vegetarian diet.
- You may make it your own by adding your favorite tastes! This easy tempeh cooking procedure guarantees that it absorbs as much flavor as possible. The recipe includes a basic marinade that you may customize to suit your tastes.
- It’s a breeze! Simply steam, marinade, and cook your tempeh according to your preferences. If you want to bake, this procedure becomes completely hands-off!
Important Ingredients
- Tempeh is fermented soybeans pressed into a cake, for those unfamiliar with the term. Various grains, such as brown rice, are sometimes added to give the tempeh a heartier texture. While tempeh is most typically prepared from soybeans, it can also be manufactured from a variety of different beans. Tempeh is chewy and nutty, and it absorbs the flavors of whatever you pair it with. It takes on the tangy characteristics of our wonderful marinade in this case!
- Soy Sauce- Tempeh has a propensity to be slightly bitter, therefore the tanginess of soy sauce helps to mask that disagreeable taste! Soy sauce produces strong, savory tempeh that goes well with a number of dishes.
- Maple Syrup — The maple syrup adds a touch of sweetness to the otherwise salty soy sauce. If you’re not vegan, you may replace the maple syrup in this recipe with honey!
Chef’s Advice
- Experiment with different ways to cook and flavor your tempeh. Spices can be added or removed as desired. If you’ve never cooked tempeh before, experiment with both the sauté and baking ways before deciding which you prefer.
- You can cut your tempeh into whatever shapes and sizes you choose. The only stipulation is that your tempeh pieces are all of the same sizes; this will ensure equal cooking!
- The tempeh can be marinated for as little as 30 minutes or as long as 8 hours. It will grow tastier the longer you marinade it! However, after only an hour in the marinade, I discovered that the tempeh is quite tasty.
