Tender shrimp can be cooked crisp in oil or baked in the oven with a crispy seasoning coating.
You can serve them with tartar sauce, cocktail sauce, or any preferred dipping sauce.
Exceptional Popcorn Shrimp
What are popcorn shrimp? Popcorn are tiny shrimp with a crispy coating that is small enough to be eaten like popcorn, although they don’t contain popcorn! Even while Popeye’s or Red Lobster may have served you breaded popcorn, we prefer handmade versions.
- Before serving, prepare the shrimp in advance and bake or fry them.
- To get the ideal crispiness, deep-fry, oven-bake, or air-fry.
- To alter the flavor, change the diapers or seasonings.
- Eat them as a snack or wrap them in tortillas to make tacos with fried shrimp.
Components of popcorn shrimp
SHRIMP: Shrimp are designed to be, well, popcorn-sized! The finest options are fresh or frozen 61/70 or 51/60 size for a small mouthful with a huge flavor.
EGG & FLOUR: A brief dunk in beaten egg followed by a quick dip in flour makes the coating stay!
BREADCRUMBS: Seasoned breadcrumbs provide flavor and create an equal coating, while Panko bread crumbs add crunch.
Flavor Differences
Every time, change up the recipe for shrimp by adding different flavor blends or rubs to the breading! Cajun seasoning, lemon pepper, Old Bay seasoning, or even taco seasoning are all good additions to make.
Making Popcorn Shrimp
By dredging popcorn shrimp in a flour mixture, an egg, and seasoned bread crumbs, it may be made as soft as chicken.
- Using the recipe below, pat the shrimp dry.
- Shrimp should be dipped in seasoned flour, then egg, then bread crumbs.
- According to the instructions below, bake, air fry, or pan fry until golden brown.
Oven If you’d rather, you can air fry or deep fried instead of baking as directed below.
Popcorn Shrimp in an Air Fryer: Preheat the air fryer and cook the shrimp in cooking spray. Place the items in the basket in a single layer, leaving space between them to allow hot air to circulate. When they are fully cooked and crispy, flip them after two minutes.
Deep fry: Shrimp prepped for frying should be dropped into heated oil in small batches and cooked until crispy. Drain before serving on paper towels.
Leftovers
For up to three days, store leftover shrimp in the refrigerator in an airtight container. They should be heated completely and crispy after being reheated in the air fryer or under the broiler.
