Who is Greg Doucette?

Greg Doucette is an IFBB bodybuilder, Guinness World Record holder, fitness coach, and YouTube celebrity.

He has been bodybuilding for more than 30 years, set a world record for the greatest weight deadlifted in a minute (9,130 kg), and participated in more than 60 powerlifting competitions.

Biography

Greg was born in 1975 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He developed an early interest in weightlifting and has spoken about how, as a young child of seven, he enjoyed lifting heavy objects. When Greg was thirteen years old, he developed his initial interest in bodybuilding.

Greg began his career as a bodybuilder and also participated in powerlifting competitions; he would devote the remainder of his life to these two sports.

Greg was 13 when he first learned about bodybuilding while watching an episode of That’s Incredible! that featured a 13-year-old competing in the sport.

Greg felt he would one day be on a stage like that, dominating with his skillfully molded physique because he had been practicing for several years by that point. (Website for Greg Doucette)

Greg, however, had interests outside of merely bodybuilding and powerlifting. He studied at Acadia University and received a Master’s degree in Kinesiology.

He obtained his IFBB Pro card in 2012, and since then, he has participated in IFBB events in Germany, New York, Toronto, and Vancouver.

World Record for Sumo Deadlift

Since 2015, Greg has held the world record for the sumo deadlift. This record is for the most weight lifted in a minute rather than the heaviest weight ever lifted.

He lifted 182.6 kg for 50 repetitions in 60 seconds. 9,130 kg were lifted in total throughout that minute as a result.

Greg was able to do so many repetitions despite standing only 5 feet 6 inches tall and using the Sumo deadlift technique because of the restricted range of motion.

It is quite improbable that a taller man could even come close to breaking this record. a prime example of utilizing your physical attributes for personal gain.

The Bodybuilder, Aged 40

Greg was the topic of the first episode of Swole, a new series from Vice that premiered in 2017. The documentary’s title was “The 40-Year-Old Bodybuilder.” The truth is that many bodybuilders fall between the ages of 38 and 45, contrary to what the headline suggested.

The main focus of the video was Greg’s attempt to place in the top 10 of the Toronto Pro Supershow while also having his first encounter with his partner’s parents. Greg achieved his objective (finishing ninth overall) and came off as a really lovely guy.

Greg’s future fame may not have been primarily attributed to the Vice documentary, but it was at this time that he transitioned from being well-known in bodybuilding to becoming a household name in the YouTube community.

Greg launched his YouTube channel in 2006, and it has expanded tremendously since then. As of right now, it has 1.46 million subscribers and 451,979,109 views. He often publishes twice daily, and he has a respectable following on Facebook and Instagram.

Training

Greg recently produced a YouTube video where you can follow his most recent training regimen.

Greg’s training has undoubtedly changed as he has gotten older. He now only works out three days a week instead of seven, and he does a full-body routine.

He warms up his body with cardio for 10 to 15 minutes. Then he works his calves and legs.

With a calf exercise like the seated calf press, you can superset a leg exercise like the hack squat or leg press. Then, after superseding the lat pulldown with a chest press machine, he performs chest and back exercises.

The next exercise he does is some seated rows. It is usually a good idea to work your back more than your chest; a 2:1 ratio is acceptable. The circuit that follows includes the shoulders, adductors, abductors, biceps, triceps, and any other muscles he deems require work. It appears as follows:

  • Seated shoulder press
  • Lateral dumbbell raises
  • Abductor machine
  • Adductor machine
  • Seated tricep dip machine
  • Preacher curl machine
  • Dumbbell bicep curls

It’s interesting how often Greg uses resistance machines rather than free weights throughout this demanding workout. only a few exercises only utilizing free weights.

Diet

Greg Doucette is well known for his love of French toast; whenever he uploads a video or an Instagram photo, there are typically approximately 20 comments mentioning it.

He also consumes a lot of vegetables, wraps, and grilled chicken breast. He like tomato ketchup (even mentioning this in the Vice documentary).

He eats five meals a day, one of which is a protein shake that he consumes soon before going to sleep. Greg seems to strongly detest junk food, calling it “trash food that belongs in the garbage,” in contrast to many bodybuilders.

Influences and Idols

Talking about Greg Doucette’s heroes while disregarding the obvious is difficult. Greg spends a LOT of time criticizing current and former bodybuilders for using drugs.

Although he certainly has a great deal of regard for the Greats of the Past and has made a significant effort to engage with the Up-and-Comers, his Instagram page today is full of disagreements.

What Can Greg Doucette Teach Us?

Greg’s lack of adherence to the bulking/cutting cycle, at least not to the same degree as most bodybuilders, is one of the most intriguing aspects about him.

Greg is unique in that he is also able to set records in weightlifting and powerlifting in addition to bodybuilding. Finally, it is rather illuminating that he only uses resistance equipment and still achieves such amazing results.
