Everyone loves and enjoys a cup of coffee to beat tiredness and up their moods. But though coffee improves alertness, a lot depends on when and how you drink coffee. It could cause problems if the time and way are not right. Here are some ways to have your coffee the right way.
A cup of coffee
National Coffee Association did a survey in 2020. This survey revealed that 62% of the survey participants had coffee in some form daily. They reached out for a cup of coffee. Coffee has the good intention to elevate mood and increase alertness and focus. It also cheers us up and is a comfort drink for many. It sharpens our memory momentarily and improves our performance.
Coffee definitely has its plus points. But though not unhealthy, it can lead to gut, brain and cardiovascular issues in some sensitive people or in overdoses. These include palpitations, tremors, fast heart rate, confusion, lack of concentration, lack of sleep, nausea, etc. Also it can cause a person to age faster if the timing and way of having it is incorrect.
Registered dietitian Lisa Moskovitz provides tips on how to enjoy your cup of coffee without letting it speeden up your aging. Avoid the below ways of having coffee to prevent faster aging.
Coffee with no breakfast
The practice of having coffee without breakfast is bad. Just plain coffee in the morning is not good. Lisa says:
“skipping this prime meal time can lead to a less nutritious diet,”
This practice hastens aging and causes faster cognitive decline. Have a healthy and balanced breakfast of 350 to 400 calories daily with coffee cup.
Coffee with excessive sugar
Avoid having coffee with too much sugars. A little sugar is okay. Sugars cost a lot of chronic health conditions and increase fraility. This weakness lessens physical activity and reduces muscle mass. This in turn increases frailness and the vicious cycle continues.
Too much sugars also enhance skin aging. It forms advanced glycation end products or AGEs and this can damage skin collagen and reduce tightness and elasticity of it.
Coffee in place of water
Having coffee with no water can dehydrate you and cause loss of skin elasticity.
Excess of coffee
Too much coffee is bad for health even if it produces no symptoms in you. Lisa explains:
“caffeine is a stimulant that, when consumed too close to bedtime, will disrupt adequate rest. Poor sleep can wreak havoc on recovery, immune system, mood, energy, metabolism, and everything in between.”
Inadequate sleep fastens aging.
Coffee with artificial sweeteners

Coffee with artificial sweeteners is not a good idea. It can have long term implications. Lisa says:
“not only are [these sweeteners] nutritionally void, but non-nutritive sweeteners such as sucralose and aspartame can harm insulin levels and gut health, which influences all vital pathways in the body, and lead you to crave more sweets in general throughout the day.”
