What exactly is meant by “Italian Sausage”?

Ground pork that has been seasoned is used to make Italian sausage, which is then put into casing shells to generate links that are around 6 inches long. If sausage is cooked at a temperature that is too high, for too long, or in an uneven manner, the links may become very black on the outside while the interior remains raw, or the skins may break and fall apart.

The key to well-cooked sausages is to bring them up to temperature gradually while turning them to ensure even browning.

Skewering them lengthwise or placing them in a barbeque clamp can prevent them from curling up while they are cooked.

Do You Have to Make a Hole in the Skin?

I beg you, don’t do it! This is a popular piece of advice that may be seen in a variety of recipes, however, it is not the best option.

Unfortunately, this will also enable all of those delicious juices to escape, which sort of defeats the purpose of encasing the meat in an impermeable membrane in the first place, which was to keep the juices contained in the flesh.

Please be aware that the cooking times will change depending on the thickness of the sausages.

Stovetop

  1. Place links in a skillet in water.

Grill

  1. Put on a grill preheated to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and cover it.
  2. After 15 to 20 minutes, turn the pork over occasionally till it has reached an internal temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit.

  1. Place sausage in a large skillet.
  2. To a depth of half an inch, add water. Reduce the heat to low and cover the pot.
  3. Simmer for 12 minutes. Take off the top and keep the heat on low until all of the water has evaporated, flipping the sausages regularly to brown them.

  • Put the links on a baking sheet that has been coated with foil. Put in an oven that has been preheated to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

  • Preheat the grill to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Put the cover back on.
  • After 15 to 20 minutes, give the pork a few turns at regular intervals to ensure that it browns evenly and achieves an internal temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit.
