  • This approach produces an amazing golden crust with just the right amount of crunch for your tofu.
  • It’s ridiculously simple to create! A short marinate, a toss in cornstarch, and 30 minutes in the oven yields delightfully crispy tofu with a hint of sweetness. This is something that anyone could do!
  • Crispy baked tofu is a delicious snack or major dish on its own, but you can use this approach in any tofu recipe! With a side of rice, how about crispy baked tofu and broccoli? YES, SIGN ME UP.
  • It’s also wonderful for leftovers or meal prep! Freshly cooked tofu is preferable, although baked tofu can be kept in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. You may also freeze it, but it will lose some crispiness and become a touch tough when warmed.

Important Ingredients For Crispy Tofu

Tofu – Extra firm tofu is excellent for this dish. Tofu absorbs the taste of whatever you marinade it in, which is one of its best qualities. It takes on a lovely, slightly sweet flavor with all the umami of tamari or soy sauce at this point. Amazing.

Cornstarch — This powder functions as a breading for your baked tofu, giving it the perfect crust. The recipe calls for 3-6 tablespoons, however the amount you use will be determined by how much breading you want on your tofu!

Chef’s Advice For Crispy Tofu

  • You can make the marinade according to your tastes or mood! You can season to taste, replace the maple syrup with a little extra sesame oil, use teriyaki sauce, or try BBQ sauce for a smokey, tangy tofu.
  • To make truly crispy baked tofu, squeeze out as much liquid as possible! Before adding the tofu to the marinade, drain and press it. Drain as much of the extra marinade from the tofu as possible after marinating.
  • Because tofu absorbs the marinade, work rapidly to cover all sides of each cube before allowing them to rest. To ensure that the cornstarch sticks well, cover all sides!
  • Is it possible to make crispy baked tofu in an air fryer? SURE! I recommend frying it for 10 minutes at 380°F before turning and cooking for another 5-10 minutes. Depending on how crispy you want your tofu, vary the cooking time.
