Variations and Ingredients

BASE For the finest flavor, use full-fat mayonnaise in this recipe. Sour cream can be replaced with Greek yogurt.

GARLIC For this dish, freshly minced garlic cloves work best. Because garlic cloves come in a variety of sizes, start with one and add more as desired.

Replace the garlic with garlic powder or create roasted garlic, which is a little sweeter and not quite as strong, for a more subdued garlic flavor.

FLAVORING The tastes are completed with a touch of onion powder and some fresh herbs. A small amount of green onion mince will do if you don’t have onion powder.

Whisk all of the ingredients together to create a creamy garlic dressing (per the recipe below). Put the dressing in a mason jar, cover it tightly, and chill it for at least an hour.

Tips

  • Creamy sauces can last two to three days in the refrigerator. It is not worth the risk to preserve garlic for a longer period since it could create the deadly toxin botulism.
  • Before using it once more, give the cruet or Mason jar a good shake.
  • If you want to slightly alter the flavor, replace the vinegar with lemon juice.
  • Add a small amount of milk or buttermilk for a thinner dressing.

This dressing tastes fantastic on romaine lettuce, spinach salad, or a tossed salad.
