$2.54 RECIPE / $0.64 SERVING
Garlic Noodles are a deliciously sweet, salty, and rich dish that you’ll want to prepare again and again.
Serve glazed meat, Sticky Soy-Ginger Glazed Chicken, Honey Sriracha Tofu, or basic stir-fried vegetables on top of them. These delectable noodles will become a menu regular thanks to their minimal ingredient list of pantry items.
WHAT DO I DO IF I NEED OYSTER SAUCE?
Most large supermarkets have oyster sauce in the international section (look near hoisin sauce). If you can’t find it there, go to an Asian market instead, where the oyster sauce is likely to be much less than in a chain grocery shop.
INSTEAD OF OYSTER SAUCE, WHAT CAN I DO?
The salty, rich flavor of the oyster sauce, in my opinion, makes this dish, and I would not recommend substituting it.
Several readers, however, have stated that they have used hoisin sauce, which is much sweeter, and have been pleased with the results. Replace at your own risk.
CAN I ADD ANYTHING ELSE TO GARLIC NOODLES?
This is a fantastic foundation recipe to which you can add a variety of different components!
Garlic noodles are delicious as a side dish, but you can make a meal out of them by adding protein and vegetables. Shrimp, snow peas, egg, bell pepper, or tofu could all be added!

INGREDIENTS
- 8 oz. angel hair pasta ($0.54)
- 4 cloves of garlic ($0.24)
- 1/2 bunch of green onions ($0.35)
- 4 Tbsp. butter ($0.50)
- 2 tsp soy sauce ($0.20)
- 2 Tbsp. brown sugar ($0.05)
- 1 tsp sesame oil ($0.40)
- 2 Tbsp. oyster sauce ($0.26)
INSTRUCTIONS for Garlic Noodles
- In a mixing bowl, add the oyster sauce, brown sugar, soy sauce, and sesame oil.
- Cook the noodles according to the package directions in a large pot of boiling water (boil for 7-10 minutes). Drain and set aside the cooked noodles in a colander.
- Mince the garlic and slice the green onions as the pasta cooks. In a large skillet over medium-low heat, melt the butter. Add the garlic and onions (reserve a couple for garnish) to the melted and bubbling butter and sauté until tender and fragrant (1-2 minutes).
- Turn off the heat in the skillet. Stir vigorously to coat the noodles with the drained spaghetti and oyster sauce mixture in the skillet. Sprinkle a little quantity of boiling water over the pasta to loosen it up if it’s stiff or sticky, making it difficult to stir. Serve the spaghetti with any remaining sliced green onions on top.
