The Simple Sticky Chicken

Fried chicken (or shrimp) in a honey sauce is the star ingredient of PF Chang’s delicious crispy honey chicken.

In this dish, the chicken is pan-fried with ginger, a little spice, and honey to create a tasty honey sauce. Serve it with bok choy stir fry, steaming vegetables, or even fried rice.

CHICKEN You can also use chicken thighs in place of the chicken breast that we’ve sliced into bite-sized pieces for this recipe.

SAUCE Honey gives this meal sweetness, and a little bit of ginger and garlic gives it flavor.

GARNISH A tasty garnish can be made using green onions, sesame seeds, or even toasted crushed peanuts mixed with a little chili paste.

To soak up all the sauce, serve the honey chicken over fluffy rice.

How to Make Honey Chicken

  1. Chicken is seasoned, then corn starch is added.
  2. Mix the ingredients for the sauce in a bowl.
  3. Cook chicken in a pan and set aside.
  4. Follow the recipe below to prepare the sauce. Stir in the chicken.

Variations

  • Enjoy spice? Add more Sriracha or chili flakes.
  • No chicken breast, then? Use diced pork tenderloin or even make meatballs out of pork or turkey (skip the Italian-style seasoning in your meatball recipe).

Tips

  • Sesame seeds can be added to honey chicken, which is then placed in a serving dish with sliced green onions as a garnish. For easy grab-and-go, put a tiny jar of wooden picks in the middle of the dish.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ pound of chicken breasts
  • ½ teaspoon salt & pepper each
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil or as needed
  • green onions for garnish

sauce

  • ⅓ cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons chicken broth or water
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sriracha or to taste
  • 2 teaspoons ginger grated
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 3 cloves garlic minced

  1. Chicken breasts should be cut into bite-sized pieces, salted and peppered, then coated with cornstarch.
  2. In a small bowl, combine all the sauce ingredients and reserve.
  3. In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Small batches of chicken should be added and cooked for 5 to 6 minutes, or until no longer pink. In a bowl, set aside the chicken.
  4. Simmer the sauce in the pan after adding it. 1 minute of simmering
  5. Add the chicken and stir to combine. Green onions are garnished.
