The Strawberry Pretzel Salad is a quick and simple dessert that consists of a crust made of buttery pretzels, a layer of decadent cream cheese, and fresh strawberries on top.
When we have a lot of people to feed, this strawberry pretzel salad is my go-to choice for something sweet to serve them. Everyone enjoys a delicious fresh strawberry pie. Not only is it scrumptious, but it also works out best when prepared in advance, making it the ideal dish to bring to a potluck.
Components
Although this traditional dessert is sometimes referred to as a “salad” made with pretzels, the truth is that it is actually a layered cheesecake dessert that does not require baking and is topped with fresh berries and Jello.
- Pretzels that have been broken apart, butter, and sugar make up the crust.
- Creamy Cream cheese, sugar, and whipped topping make up the filling (such as cool whip)
- Strawberry Topping: strawberry gelatin, fresh strawberries chopped into halves or halves
If fresh strawberries are unavailable, you may substitute frozen ones (defrost and drain first). You may also use some other fresh fruit, or you could add more. In this recipe, either raspberries or peaches would be a delicious addition.
To Make Strawberry Pretzel Salad
It only takes three simple steps to put together this strawberry jello pretzel salad. Be sure to put each step in the refrigerator in between so that they can set.
- Crust: In a separate bowl, combine the finely crushed pretzels with the sugar and butter, and then press this mixture into the bottom of a pan (per the recipe below).
- To make a creamy filling, whisk cream cheese and sugar together, then fold whipped topping into the mixture. Spread it over the pretzel layer, then place it in the refrigerator to set.
- To make the strawberry topping, mix together strawberry Jello with water, and then pour it on top of the creamy layer.
Refrigerate overnight. When you’re ready to eat it, simply cut it into squares and serve it!
Advice for Achieving Perfection
- Layers of coolness: Before adding the next layer, you must first let each layer cool down or chill.
- Be sure to guard the topping: It is important to spread the cream cheese layer all the way to the edge of the pan so that the pretzel crust does not become soggy.
- Cool Jello Before pouring the Jell-o over the fresh strawberries, you should wait for it to reach room temperature so that the strawberries won’t be damaged by the heat.
- Employ the use of whipped topping: The topping made from whipped cream is a more reliable component that sets more securely. It’s possible for whipped cream to “leak.”
To Get One Step Further
When prepared at least a half day in advance, strawberry pretzel salad tastes its very finest (making it a great dessert or potluck dish). The minimal amount of time needed to set it up is four hours, but the longer the better. It can be stored in the refrigerator for up to three days without going bad.

Ingredients
pretzel crust
- 2 cups crushed pretzels
- ¾ cup butter melted
- 3 tablespoons sugar
creamy filling
- 8 ounces cream cheese softened
- ¾ cup sugar
- 8 ounces Cool Whip defrosted
strawberry topping
- 6 ounces Strawberry Jell-O
- 2 cups boiling water
- 4 cups sliced strawberries
Instructions
- Prepare the oven to 375 degrees F.
- Mix together the crushed pretzels, melted butter, and sugar in a dish, then press the mixture into the bottom of a 9×13 pan. Bake for ten minutes, then allow to totally cool.
- Mix cream cheese and sugar with a hand mixer on medium speed in a bowl of medium size until the mixture becomes frothy. Mix in the Cool Whip with a light hand. After the mixture has been uniformly spread over the crust, place it in the refrigerator for at least an hour.
- Mix Jell-O and water that has been brought to a boil in a large mixing bowl until the Jell-O is dissolved. Give the mixture time to cool down completely at room temperature before using it.
- Strawberry slices should be arranged on top of the cream cheese mixture. Jell-O must be poured on top once it has cooled.
- Refrigerate for at least 4-6 hours, or overnight, until the mixture has solidified completely.
Notes
- You should not make the Jell-O according to the directions on the package. Make sure the Jell-o box you buy is the larger one that holds 6 ounces.
- The pretzels are first broken up into smaller pieces and then weighed.
