Short Career of Juan Morel

Juan Morel discovered strength training while working out in the boxing gym at the beginning of his career as a successful handball player and boxer.

The bodybuilders he read about in publications captured his attention, and he set out to achieve his goal of joining them on stage.

He tried to go pro after developing a massive, proportionate body. He finished second three times at the NPC championships before taking first place and earning his Pro Card. But for Juan, this was just the start.

Young Years

Manhattan, New York, is where Juan was born. His parents emigrated to New York from the Dominican Republic in hopes of a better life. Juan was fortunate to have a large family in the US, so he was never alone.

“For several years, we resided with the families of some of my mother’s sisters; I felt as though I had a large family. I had a wonderful early life.

The entire family was quite close, both physically and emotionally, and we would get together and relax on the weekends.

Sports Starting Points

Juan participated in a variety of sports before starting his weightlifting career. Handball was his first sport, which he pursued until he was 22 years old.

Even though he excelled at handball and won numerous competitions, he was constantly searching for a sport that would let him use his physical prowess to defeat his rivals.

He started training and participating in fights at a nearby boxing facility, “never losing a contest.”

Learning about Weightlifting

When Juan Morel decided to gain weight for boxing, he experienced his first taste of weight training. He started weightlifting with some of his boxing buddies, and the way it made his body feel and look drew him in right away.

At this point, he started purchasing bodybuilding publications and witnessed Mr. Olympia contestants Flex Wheeler, Kevin Levrone, and Ronnie Coleman flexing their muscles. He “wanted to see how large” he could get to be like them.

Achieving His Pro Card

Juan’s athletic career was clearly at a fork in the path at this point. He had to decide between boxing and bodybuilding when he was 25 years old.

He made the latter decision and started working out as hard as he could, adjusting his diet and routine to get a physique that was envied by all.

His physique significantly improved, and he went into the 2007 NPC East Coast Championships as a highly self-assured rookie.

He was surprised and enthusiastic about what he would be able to do in the future after placing second overall, he said.

To earn his Pro Card, he started to participate in more NPC events across the country.

Sadly, he finished in second place in each of his first three contests. Fortunately, in 2011, he won the NPC North American Championships. As a result, he was well-positioned to win the 2011 NPC Gulf Coast Championships.

Finding A Positive Perspective on Bodybuilding

Juan started to reflect more intently on his goals in the sport when he started to compete with a pro card next to his name. He accepted the fact that he would never win Mr. Olympia and came to terms with it.

I doubt I’ll ever become Mr. Olympia. Amazing bodybuilder Phil Heath is. I never think I’ll defeat Phil Heath. He has to retire because he’s practically perfect to even slightly open the door.

Juan worked out in the gym anyhow, pushing himself to the limit. Never say never, he advises, and he does not rule out someday winning the Mr. Olympia title. But in the end, he’s just content with what he’s already accomplished.

An Unusual Approach

Juan Morel tries to experiment in the gym by adapting conventional exercises to his demands. The “standing behind the neck press” that he learns about in the sport is one illustration of this.

Since he initially began training, he claims to have “performed them like that.”

He believes that by refining tried-and-true lifts, he may maximize his enjoyment of the sport. He likes the chance to do so. The following is his shoulder exercise, which incorporates this lift:

Juan exercises twice a week as part of his weekly schedule. Every Tuesday and Friday, he smacks his shoulders.

Juan works out his back and shoulders on the same day, which is an interesting fact. He claims that he has settled into a routine that he likes.

He claims that “ninety percent of the time” he will take a two-hour nap between workouts to give his shoulders the energy they need.


Consuming A Lot Of Food

Juan takes great satisfaction in his capacity to consume a lot of food, but he needs it. He needs to consume about 11,000 calories daily to maintain his weight of 300 pounds and, ultimately, his strength.

Juan chooses a variety of foods to meet his caloric needs, unlike many bodybuilders who stick to a diet of mostly chicken and rice meals. He enjoys all of his meals, eating things like pasta, cheeseburgers, and steaks.

He consumes a hamburger and fries, which has a calorie count of 1,560, 140 grams of carbohydrates, 77 grams of fat, and 70 grams of protein.
