The husk (the green leaves that cover the corn cob) may have been removed from your corn. If not, you may easily shuck them yourself (or enlist the help of your children!).

  1. With two hands, separate the husk at the top of the ear of corn into two pieces. It’s perfectly fine if your halves are different sizes.
  2. To see the corn within, pull the husks all the way down to the bottom. If there are any remaining husk chunks, pull them down as well.
  3. Remove the husks from the ear’s bottom, or where the stem is located.
  4. Pull any remaining bits of silk from between the kernels with your fingertips. That concludes our discussion. Cooking time has arrived for your corn.

Corn Boiling Instructions

  1. Fill a medium to large pot halfway with water and generously salt it. Bring to a boil.
  2. Using long tongs, add the corn ears. Cook for 5 minutes at a low temperature. When the corn is ready, it will turn a richer, brighter yellow. Remove with tongs from the boiling water and serve immediately (so your butter gets all nice and melty).

Suggestions for Serving

  • Butter (with optional salt) is a classic for a reason!
  • With a little butter, mayo, cotija cheese, chili powder, and lime juice, make Mexican street corn.
  • For a quick taste of Mexican flavors, combine butter and Tajn.
  • a squirt of lime juice, and a pinch of chipotle or chile powder

Should Corn Be Boiling In Milk?

Some individuals do it, but I believe it is unnecessary. To bring out the naturally sweet flavor of the corn, I like to boil it in just heavily salted water.

This recipe can also be used to prepare corn for other dishes, such as creamed corn or corn salsa.

If you’re using corn that you’ve already boiled for another recipe, you’ll need a knife, a small bowl, and a large bowl to take it from the cob. In the large bowl, place the smaller bowl upside down.

Hold the corn upright in the tiny bowl and stand it up. To extract the corn kernels, cut downwards with the knife. This ensures that all of the corn falls into the bowl rather than all over the counter (or floor).

Suggestions for Serving

We adore corn in a variety of dishes, but here are a few of our favorites:
