All of the flavors from the renowned “everything bagel” are used in the flavorful chicken dish known as “cream cheese chicken”!
In this dish, chicken breasts are coated with a real entire bagel and liberally sprinkled with everything bagel spice before being stuffed with a savory cream cheese filling!
A tossed salad and some vegetables go wonderfully with this cheese-breaded chicken dish!
Ingredients
- CRUMBS OF BAGEL BREAD To make the ideal coating for this cream cheese chicken recipe, crumbs from a fresh bagel are prepared. Though you can use any flavor, I only use plain bagels (cheddar is great too). You can use Panko bread crumbs for bagels if you don’t have any.
- BEEF CHICKEN In this dish, boneless/skinless chicken is utilized. The cooking time for boneless chicken breasts might vary depending on their size, which is why I use smaller 5 oz breasts in this recipe.
- FILLING WITH CREAM CHEESE A cream cheese filling is a must-have for any dish that has “everything”! A little cheddar enhances the flavor.
- EVERYTHING BAGEL SEASONING You can purchase this seasoning or make your own right here.
How to Make Chicken with Cream Cheese
This chicken breast is incredibly cheese-filled! I prefer to butterfly the chicken, as in these spinach-stuffed chicken breasts, instead of rolling it like you would in chicken cordon bleu.
- If using, pulse the bagel into crumbs in a food processor. Set aside after combining with everything bagel seasoning (you can use Panko bread crumbs if you prefer).
- Combine the ingredients for the cream cheese filling (per the recipe below).
- Chicken breasts should be sliced longitudinally, but not completely through. Season the chicken with salt and pepper and stuff.
- Chicken should be coated in crumbs, topped with additional everything bagel seasoning, then baked in a preheated oven.
How long should stuffed chicken breast be cooked?
Cooking a baked chicken breast with cream cheese filling takes longer than baking a breast with no filling. Cook for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165°F.
Everything goes with chicken
Serve cream cheese chicken with everything!
A side of fluffy mashed potatoes or crisp baked potato wedges is always a good choice.
Include some vegetables like roasted broccoli, green beans with bacon, or simply a simple fresh salad.
Have Extras?
For a nutritious lunch, thinly slice leftover cream cheese chicken and serve it with a bed of greens. Or, for a heartier dinner, slip some into a toasted Kaiser bread.
Store in an airtight bag or container before freezing. You can freeze leftovers for up to two weeks.
Simply add a little more everything bagel seasoning, some salt, and pepper to the top to reheat.
The breading won’t be crisp if heated in the microwave, thus I like to use the toaster oven or even the microwave and broil for a few minutes.
Cream Cheese Chicken
Chicken breasts are packed, baked, then topped with a full bagel, enough of everything bagel seasoning, and cream cheese!
Prepare in 25 minutes
35 minutes for cooking overall 1 hour portions: 4 portions |
Ingredients
- 4 boneless chicken breasts 5 oz each
- 6 tablespoons spreadable herb and garlic cream cheese
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- 1-ounce parmesan cheese
- 2 ounces sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 plain bagel or 1 cup of panko breadcrumbs
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 tablespoons of everything seasoning divided
- ¼ cup flour
- 1 egg beaten
Instructions
- Turn on the 375°F oven. Use parchment paper to line a baking pan.
- Place the bagel, broken into small pieces, in a food processor or blender. Crumbs can be made by pulsing, but avoid making them too fine.
- 2 tablespoons each of everything seasoning and olive oil are added to the breadcrumbs. Blend thoroughly.
- Combine cream cheese, garlic powder, parmesan cheese, and cheddar cheese in a small bowl.
- Don’t cut all the way through when slicing each chicken breast lengthwise (so it unfolds like a book). The cream cheese mixture should be put inside each breast. Add pepper and salt to taste.
- Combine one tablespoon of water and one beaten egg. Each chicken breast should be floured before being dipped in the beaten egg. Place on a baking sheet after rolling in the bagel crumbs.
- Add the last seasoning to everything.
- 165°F chicken should be reached after 35 to 40 minutes of baking on a preheated pan. 5 minutes should pass before serving.
