These air-fried fries use much less oil than conventional fries while still being just as crispy and crunchy. They are simple to make and delicious with only 3 ingredients.

This weekend, try these air fryer French fries with your veggie burgers if you’re looking for a simple side dish. I realize it.

I often only grill salads or corn on the cob as side dishes, but now and then, I get a yearning for a salty, crunchy snack that even the best summer salad can’t sate. These air fryer fries fit the bill in that situation.

They resemble normal fries in many respects. They have a crunchy exterior, a creamy interior, and a salty coating that is hard to resist.

However, there is one significant distinction between air frying and deep frying: using an air fryer only requires a thin trickle of oil to produce crispy fries. Because of this, these fries are far healthier than regular fries.

We’ve been preparing (and eating) these air fryer fries regularly lately. They cook quickly and just need three common ingredients.

They are hot, crunchy, and utterly delicious right after they have just been fried. You’ll be hooked after giving them a try.

FRENCH FRIES IN AN AIR FRYER: A RECIPE

Here are the instructions to follow when you’re ready to cook:

Start by chopping your potatoes. They should all have comparable sizes and thicknesses of around 1/4 inch. In this manner, everyone will cook at the same speed.

Since the skin helps the potatoes cook more evenly and crisp up nicely, I do not advise peeling your potatoes. Once the potatoes have been cut into fries, combine them all with salt and olive oil.

Next, prepare the initial batch. Place the cut potatoes in the air fryer basket in a single layer with some space between them.

Spare them some room! Fries get golden brown and crisp because the gap enables hot air to contact all of their surfaces. They are air-fried at 380 for 12 to 15 minutes, flipping halfway through. Take them out when the edges are crisp and brown.

Repeat the process with the remaining potatoes, cooking them in as many batches as required to give the fries enough room in the basket.

Last but not least, combine them all! When the last batch of fries is cooked, place them all back into the air fryer basket (there’s no need to bother about arranging them in a single layer this time), and cook them for 1–2 minutes to rewarm and crisp up the previous batches.

Take remove the air fryer fries once they are completely crispy, then devour them!

BEST TIPS FOR FRENCH FRIES

  • Work in groups. It’s crucial to spread the potatoes in the air fryer basket in a single layer and to give some room between each one. The potatoes won’t become crispy if they are packed too closely inside the air fryer and will instead simmer. You’ll probably need to work in bunches so you can give them enough room. Three batches of fries are made when I utilize two russet potatoes.
  • Not yet crispy? Keep at it! The precise timing will change depending on the air fryer you have. At the 12-minute point, I suggest inspecting your first batch and changing your timing by how they appear. Cook them longer if necessary to get them to crisp up.
  • Taste is more significant than look when judging doneness. My air-fried fries tend to look finished before they are. Before beginning a fresh batch, taste a fry from each batch to ensure that it is crisp on the exterior and tender on the inside.
  • In the conclusion, combine them all. As you’ll be cooking in batches, some of the fries may need to wait before you’re done cooking them. No one enjoys eating cold, soggy fries, so place all of the fries in the air fryer at once (don’t worry about space this time) and cook for 1 to 2 minutes before serving. The fries from earlier batches will be quickly reheated and made nice and crispy. Yum!

IDEAS FOR SERVING AIR FRYER FRENCH FRIES

These fries from the air fryer make a fantastic appetizer or snack on their own. Add some flavor to them by seasoning them with fresh herbs, chili powder, garlic powder, or onion powder, or serve them plain with salt and pepper.

With dipping sauces, they’re also delicious! They taste great with unconventional toppings like vegan cheese, chipotle sauce, or chimichurri, but I prefer them with ketchup and mustard.

These air fryer fries are a fantastic side dish, of course. For a tasty, enjoyable lunch, combine them with any of these recipes:

  • Best vegetarian burger
  • Mushroom Portobello Burger
  • The Black Bean Burger
  • Crispy Sandwich including cauliflower
  • BBQ Paninis with jackfruit

Enjoy!

  1. Set the air fryer’s temperature to 380°F.
  2. Olive oil, salt, and pepper should be drizzled over the potatoes before tossing to coat.
  3. Put the potatoes in the air fryer basket in a single layer, making sure they don’t touch. Work will have to be done in groups. Until crispy, air fried for 12 to 15 minutes*, flipping halfway through. Air-fried your fries for a little while longer if they aren’t crispy.
  4. When all of the batches are done, put them all back into the air fryer—this time, without having to arrange them in a single layer—for 1 to 2 minutes to reheat and re-crisp any that became cold during the first few batches.
  5. Serve with the chosen dips and seasonings.

NOTES

*Air fryers’ cooking times can differ significantly. Bake your fries for an additional five minutes if they aren’t crispy after 15 minutes.

These fries can also be prepared in an oven. For 20 to 25 minutes, roast them at 425, flipping halfway through.

If you don’t have an air fryer, you might want to check out this recipe for roasted potatoes instead because they won’t be as crisp as the air fryer fries.
