The crock pot ribs produce soft, flavorful, melt-in-your-mouth results.

The slow cooker helps the baby’s back ribs become soft, making them ideal for busy weeknights or simple weekend dinners. These are delightfully finished with a short brush of barbecue sauce and a flash grill (or broil).

The most popular recipe for cole slaw, corn on the cob, and baked french fries go great with crock pot barbecue ribs. ( Crock Pot Ribs)

How to Make Baby Back Crock Pot Ribs?

It only makes sense that I would offer my favorite crockpot rib recipe since I’m so well known for my Instant Pot Ribs and my tender Barbecue Ribs in the Oven!

The procedure is the same for all of the methods: let the ribs cook low and slow so the flesh gets buttery and tender, then finish with sauce and a grill (or broil).

  • Remove the silver membrane from the rear to prepare the ribs (photo below). You may simply slide a knife under it and pull it (if it’s slippery, a piece of paper towel can help you grip it). Your ribs may already have the membrane removed if you’re having difficulties finding it in this phase. You might occasionally purchase ribs with them already cut off.
  • Check the rack of ribs for any chunks or shards of bone that may have fallen off during the butchering process.
  • For your slow cooker, cut the racks into manageable pieces. Depending on the size, I typically cut things in half or thirds.

What kind of ribs to buy for ribs in a slow cooker? I use baby back ribs from pork (or back ribs). They are the tastiest and tender.

Side ribs are also great, but I don’t like the tiny, whiter bones that they have toward the end (and they may need a little bit of extra time).

 Crock Pot Ribs Cooking Instructions

  1. Massage the prepared ribs with the combined rub mixture.
  2. Put the ribs, onion, garlic, and a little water in the slow cooker (or broth). Put the lid on the crock pot and let it do its thing.
  3. When the ribs are cooked, spray them with sauce (or, if you prefer, just salt, pepper, and olive oil) and broil (or grill) them for 3 to 5 minutes to achieve a little sear.
  4. Slice the ribs apart, then remove the ribs from the pan gently.

How long should ribs be cooked in a crock pot?

As long as you cook the pork ribs low and slow, they are simple to prepare (I use pork baby back ribs). If you’d like a little bit extra “chew” to your ribs, shorten the cooking time a little bit. We prefer our rib meat to fall off the bone.

  • About eight hours will be required to cook the slow cooker’s ribs on low.
  • About 4 hours will be required to cook the slow cooker ribs on high.

Keep in mind that lifting the lid to look can significantly lengthen the cooking time.
