Biography

Building Muscle in the Family

Sergio Oliva Jr., who was born and reared in Chicago, got his start in bodybuilding when he was a youngster. While performing on stage, his famous father, Sergio Oliva, a three-time Mr. Olympia, cradled him in his arms.

The mother of Sergio Jr. was a skilled bodybuilder as well. She had won one Mrs. America title and three female bodybuilding world championships.

However, Sergio Jr. didn’t start by imitating his parents. In actuality, his father opposed his weight training and bodybuilding competitions.

Not only did he not want me to compete, but he also did not want me to begin exercising, lifting weights, or doing anything else.

He thought I ought to pay more attention to other things,” Sergio Jr. stated. Because of this, he spent most of his school years concentrating on athletics and other activities.

Inborn Love of Weightlifting

Sergio Jr. had a good sporting career and was also developing a liking for bodybuilding. which over time grew stronger and stronger.

Eventually, Sergio Jr. decided to follow his instincts rather than his father’s guidance and pursue a career in bodybuilding. I did it anyhow because, as Sergio Jr. put it, “I was quite sure that this was what I wanted to accomplish with my life.”

Sergio Jr. weighed 140 lbs. and was 20 years old when he first started working out. He did, however, pack on an amazing 30 pounds of muscle to his physique in just three months.

Sergio had a great deal of passion for bodybuilding and received tremendous guidance from his father. He advanced in the gym quickly because of this.

In his own words, “There was no stopping me because when I set my mind on anything, I’m going to find a way to do it.”

First-Place Awards

Sergio Jr. participated in his first bodybuilding show just a year after starting. Sergio Jr. placed third in the Middleweight division at the Southern USA fight in 2006.

His first triumph came in 2007 when he won the light-heavy division of the Panhandle Showdown.

Occupational Status

Sergio participated in the same number of competitions for the following eight years.

His finest accomplishments included victories at the Mr. Northwest Florida 2008, Southern USA Championships 2010, and Midwest Ironman 2012 competitions.

Sergio took nearly a full year off following his final performance in 2014 to get ready for his toughest test yet: Pro Card qualifying.

He returned the following year in his greatest form, taking first place at the 2015 NPC Nationals and achieving the long-awaited Professional designation.

Sergio Jr., like the majority of competitive bodybuilders, frequently changes up his workouts. He favors free weights, big volumes, and pyramid training.

On his first workout day of the week, Sergio often works out his preferred body part. which are either his back or legs. The same applies to his training, though. On this day, Sergio Jr. also trains different body parts and will occasionally vary this.

Favorite Exercises and Body Parts

The legs and back of Sergio Jr. are his favorite body parts. Squats, T-bar rows, and deadlifts are some of his preferred exercises.

Sergio struggled to develop his back when he initially started working out. However, his back “exploded” into growth after including compound free-weight exercises like deadlifts and weighted pull-ups.
