Biography

Postman

Tony Emmott was raised in Ilkley (Yorkshire), England, and is a lifelong fitness enthusiast. He started lifting weights at the gym at a young age because he was determined to build the body of his dreams.

But Tony didn’t always think about a career in bodybuilding; when he was younger, he worked as a postman and led a regular life away from the stage.

Bodybuilding Competitions

At the age of 22, Tony entered his first competition, the 1960 NABBA Mr. Universe, as a result of his enthusiasm for the sport.

Even though he lost, he finished a respectable fourth in his first competition. Tony entered another contest a year later after being inspired by his performance.

By finishing in the top 3, he outperformed his prior rival, but at this moment, he wasn’t thinking about altering his line of work. Tony went back to working as a postman in his little town of Ilkley for the following eight years.

But he continued to work on his physique and work out in the gym.

Get back on stage

At the age of 31, Tony took the important choice to follow his passion and establish himself as a bodybuilder. In that year’s NABBA Mr. Britain competition, he made a comeback and finished in the top 3.

He received his Pro Card for this accomplishment. He did, however, take two years off to work on his physique so he could compete against the sport’s top athletes.

Professional Life

The NABBA Universe Pro was Tony’s debut professional performance. Tony Emmott did well to finish in the top 3, taking on competitors like Frank Zane.

He participated in 21 more events over the course of the following 12 years, winning 3 prizes and consistently finishing in the top 3.

Along with other legends like Danny Padilla, Ed Corney, Mohamed Makkawy, and Frank Zane, Tony attained fame for his incredible body at this time.

Retirement

Tony had established himself as a bodybuilding legend after a fruitful career that included 25 events and countless appearances in respectable muscle magazines.

He helped to establish the sport in his native England and encouraged numerous players to work in the field.

However, Tony decided to call it quits on his own career at the age of 45. The 1983 Grand Prix Portland was the last time he appeared on stage.

Despite not having a happy ending, he finished ninth behind Tony Pearson and other much younger competitors (26 at the time).
