Who Is Travis Mayer?
American CrossFitter and gym owner Travis Mayer.
He has competed in the CF Games four times and placed 18th on his first attempt in 2013. His 10th-place finish in the 2016 CrossFit Games was his best result to date.
Travis didn’t always have the intention of being the athlete he is now, though. He was never particularly interested in sports growing up; instead, his main passion was motocross riding.
Travis’ perspective, however, changed after he saw Chris Spealler, a CrossFit competitor. Travis decided to give CrossFit a try after becoming fascinated by Chris’ power and agility.
Since that time, Travis has used CrossFit as a means of enhancing both his own life and the lives of those who heed his counsel.
“Crossfit plays a major role in my life. Although it is my business and what I do every day, it is only a small portion of my life. My life is being woken up every morning by my wife and kids. I am defined by how I approach the present and by what I anticipate.
“When I initially started CrossFit years ago, I used to think ripped-up hands were nice, but I was unable to train bar movements due to the discomfort or my desire to prevent the rip from getting worse.
With the amount of training, I do each day, keeping my hands rip-free is a top priority.
