This is not about lowering expectations; it’s about raising them for every last one of us. Greatness is not in one special place, and it’s not in one special person.

Greatness is wherever somebody is trying to find it. Find your greatness.”

Training

Development of Glutes

Vanessa Mejia has developed her glutes to an incredible extent. She gave some of her best tips for developing sturdy, well-proportioned legs.

One of her personal favorites is the hack squat. If done properly, Vanessa thinks they are the best glute builder. She insisted that toes should be pointed out and legs spread apart. She enjoys squeezing her glutes and hamstrings to feel the muscle working as she climbs.

Squats: According to Mejia, this exercise is probably even better for developing the entire leg and glute than hack squats, but it’s not for everyone, especially for someone with back issues.

Vanessa avoids squats if she has back problems because she feels that the danger of harm is not worth it and that hack squats are a perfect substitute.

Finally, she said that when performing leg exercises, compressing the muscle is perhaps the most crucial aspect of the workout. It is, in Vanessa’s opinion, the ideal method for promoting muscle growth.

She did add, though, that the “stretch feeling” and emphasizing the unfavorable aspect of the movement will help to shape the muscle.

Favorite Workouts

Vanessa Mejia frequently posts internet workout videos. Leg presses, hack squats, hanging leg raises, crunches, lunges, and various kettlebell circuits are a few of her favorite workouts.

“Life is a collection of changes. Take every change as a challenge. Some challenges give you success and some act as a stepping stone to success. Either way, change is always good.”

Nutrition

Dietary Principles

Vanessa always eats complete, wholesome foods when getting ready for one of her bikini competitions. A few days before the competition, she also lowers her calorie consumption, keeping it below 2000 and occasionally even 1200.

Vanessa Mejia eats more calories when she is not competing, but she is still conscious of her eating patterns. She avoids sugars as much as she can because she believes they are the worst for your health.

Mejia occasionally lets herself do something sweet, though, especially after competitions when she feels as though her body has run out of glycogen.

Vanessa typically eats red meat, poultry, Greek yogurt, and egg whites for protein. Her primary sources of carbohydrates are fruits, veggies, and brown rice. She eats olive oil, almonds, and even peanut butter as her sources of fat.
