All Elite Wrestling star, Paul Wight had suffered a horrific injury to his knees. After been bound to a wheelchair for almost 11 long weeks, Paul is back in action. He revealed the steps he took to recover back and get back in form for his game.
Paul Wight and his knee injury
The All Elite Wrestling star, Paul Wight is famously called The Big Show. He had a horrendous knee injury and was on complete rest for it. He had to wait for nearly three months while the knee implant for his knee replacement surgery was under construction. Paul told Metro UK:
“Well, I spent 11 weeks in a wheelchair because I was waiting for them to build the implant for my knee because of my size.”
He added:
“I had crushed all the bone in the knee, I was bleeding into my shin. So, I’ve got a good pain tolerance, but when I say I rode the tyre down to the rim, that’s exactly what I did.”
‘But, luckily I still have all my ligaments in that knee, everything’s good there, it’s a nice, brand new titanium joint so it’s good for 35 years. So, I can parachute if I want to – not that I’ll ever jump out of an airplane, we all saw the movie Operation Dumbo drop, I don’t think that’s me, we’re good!’
Return to the ring
Paul is planning a comeback to the rings. He is now training for it with his personal trainer, Mike O’Hearn. His fellow wrestling legend Billy Gunn had introduced Mike to Paul. Praising Mike, Paul expressed:
‘For me, I went in with an open minded attitude of, okay, I don’t know anything about nutrition, I don’t know anything about diet, I don’t know anything about training – because what I was doing wasn’t working,’
‘When you have injuries, you have a lot of things, a lot of muscles that turn off, your nervous system changes, so there were a lot of things that I needed help with. Mike’s just been fantastic.’
Further, he said:
“Michael helps me with nutrition and workout advice and stuff like that. We’ve changed a lot of things to adapt to someone my size and my age. There’s been incredible results, and I’m super happy about it.”
Paul’s weight changes
Paul’s current weight is 419 lbs. He believes that he is 35 to 40 lbs more than what he needs to achieve. He mentioned that his leanest weight was 370 lbs. But that weight was below what he desired. Because with that weight, his body muscles suffered. This happened because he was doing a lot of cardio and biking 20 to 25 miles every day. He feels that that was not right. Explaining further, Paul said:
‘I really wasn’t getting – these are things I’m finding out now, I wasn’t getting enough protein in. At the time, I was trying to eliminate a lot of mass, I went from 480 down to 370.’

Hence, now Paul is eating healthily with a time schedule. Every three hours, he consumes a meal or a shake. This better nutrition will help in building his muscles. He prefers to lose weight gradually so that he does not compromise on his muscle mass and its strength. Jokingly, he added:
‘There won’t be any stops at Krispy Kreme any more, so I’m good.’
