Glowing skin is desired by many. But often it is difficult to get. But luckily nature has provided us with certain plants as well as blue foods that can assist one in having the skin radiance and glow.
Australian nutritionist Rebecca Gawthorne reveals the best foods for getting that shiny and glowing skin.
Glowing skin
Skin is the outer part of our body that is visible to everyone. It should be well hydrated and soft and supple and elastic. But often due to various reasons that include genes, diet, weather, etc.
the skin takes on a dull look. It might become dry or be over oily. This affects the person’s appearance. To get back the glow of the skin, people resort to various measures.
These include topical applications such as moisturizers, creams, Vaseline, and the like. These help but the best way is to treat from within.
Some foods are very good for making the skin light and happy looking. These are usually rich in zinc, vitamin C, and healthy fats. Collagen-building foods also improve the suppleness of the skin.
Rebecca Gawthorne is an Australian dietitian who is based in Sydney. She uploaded a video on her Instagram recently in which she is shopping in a supermarket for foods that help the skin.
Foods good for the skin
In the video, Rebecca opts for avocados, olive oil, tinned salmon, nuts, and hemp to bring back the shine to the skin. These all contain healthy fats such as omega 3 fatty acids and omega 6 fatty acids.
These are used in building cell membranes and can keep the skin hydrated and moist. Omega 3 fatty acids provide softness to the skin.
And in her grocery basket, Rebecca also added foods with a low glycemic index such as rice, multigrain bread, chickpeas, and red lentils. High blood sugar increases body inflammation and causes bacterial proliferation.
They also increase sebum production. All this leads to acne. Thus, by opting for low glycemic foods acne chances come down and the skin gets its lost glow.
Other foods Rebecca picked up
The dietitian added to her shopping bag foods rich in antioxidants. These reduce cell damage and skin blemishes. Vitamin C-rich foods such as oranges, kiwis, raspberries, broccoli, and turmeric do wonders for the skin.
These also prevent actinic skin damage, reduce inflammation, and fight signs of aging.
She also suggested incorporating pre and probiotic-rich foods such as coconut yogurt and asparagus in the diet. High zinc-containing foods also are good for the skin.
And these include almonds, garlic, black beans, and pumpkin kernels. And last but not the least, ample quantities of water are a must for skin hydration. Consume liberal amounts of water daily.
