Who needs some comfort food nowadays? Yeah, me too.
The last time I had leftover russet potatoes, I knew precisely what I would prepare with them. Thicker-cut, oven-baked steak fries, ideal for dipping and dunking.
These delightful potato wedges become pleasantly crisp in the oven without any additional procedures, such as soaking or drying, making them a remarkably easy side dish. Or entrée if you are like me.
WHAT EXACTLY ARE STEAK FRIES?
Simply put, steak is served with thick wedges of potato. Instead of deep-frying them like French fries, I baked them.
They were still remarkably crispy, and way easier than dealing with acquiring (and maintaining) a vat of boiling oil at the correct temperature and evading oil that is attempting to kill you.
WHAT IS “STEAK SEASONING”?
Steak spice provides an additional “steak” element to my steak fries. Steak seasoning, sometimes known as Montreal steak seasoning, is one of my favorite seasoning combinations.
It is a granular mixture of salt, pepper, red pepper, garlic, and occasionally additional spices. This blend’s chunky texture imparts flavor bursts and a satisfying crunch to the fries as you consume them. I adore these items!
WHERE TO BUY STEAK SPICES
This is available at all major supermarkets. Typically, it is available in the spice aisle with other seasoning blends or grill seasoning blends.
One is manufactured by McCormick and is available in the majority of major U.S. supermarkets. Today I bought it from Aldi. Scroll down to the step-by-step images part of the tutorial to view a picture of the bottle.
HOW ARE THE LEFTOVERS?
Like most other varieties of fries, these Steak Fries are finest when they are fresh from the oven. The longer they sit, the less crispy they will become, and if refrigerated overnight, their texture will resemble that of a baked potato.
That did not prevent me from consuming the remainder, did it? Definitely not. They were wonderful when dipped in comeback sauce.
OVEN-BAKED STEAK FRIES
These very crispy, thick-cut, oven-baked beef fries are perfectly seasoned with steak seasoning for maximum flavor in every bite.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 lb. russet potatoes ($0.60)
- 1 Tbsp. cooking oil ($0.04)
- 1/2 Tbsp. paprika ($0.15)
- 1/2 Tbsp. steak seasoning ($0.15)
INSTRUCTIONS
- Preheat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Wash the potatoes thoroughly. Cut each potato into approximately 12 wedges. (Cut the potato in half lengthwise, then cut each half into three wedges.)
- Add the potato wedges, cooking oil, paprika, and steak seasoning to a bowl. Coat the potato wedges thoroughly by tossing them.
- Spread the seasoned potato wedges in a single layer on a baking sheet coated with parchment paper. Bake for 35 minutes, or until evenly browned and crisp. After roughly 20 minutes of baking, turn the steak fries once.
- Serve without delay.

HOW TO MAKE OVEN-BAKED STEAK FRIES – STEP BY STEP
- Preheat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Start with one pound of russet potatoes or two and a half ounces. Due to their underground origin, potatoes should be thoroughly cleaned. In the soil. You understand the point. Divide each potato into twelve wedges. I began by slicing each potato into quarters along its length. Next, divide each quarter into three wedges.
- Add the potato wedges, 1 tablespoon of cooking oil, 1/2 tablespoon of paprika, and 1/2 tablespoon of steak seasoning to a bowl.
- I utilized this steak seasoning. This is from Aldi, but you can find McCormick in most grocery stores. It is simply a mixture of salt, pepper, garlic, red pepper, and sometimes a few more spices.
- Toss the potato wedges in oil and seasonings until they are evenly covered.
- Spread the potato wedges out in a single layer on a baking sheet coated with parchment paper.
- Bake the steak fries in a preheated oven at 425 degrees Fahrenheit for approximately 35 minutes, or until they are evenly browned and crisp. After approximately 20 minutes, they must be flipped once during baking.
- Serve with your preferred condiments! Ketchup, ranch, and comeback sauce are served alongside.
