The Italian-American actor was raised in Brooklyn as an only child by his lawyer father and housewife mother Marge. John Roberts is quite close to his mother, and he has said that he modeled Linda Belcher’s voice after hers.

John was tormented in both elementary and high school due to his “gayish behavior,” despite his early interest in performing. Nevertheless, he soon discovered comfort in playing and began participating in the plays produced at his high school.

He graduated in 1989 and spent two years at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts before deciding to concentrate solely on his acting and singing careers. Nevertheless, he would spend the next 18 years doing several jobs to support himself while attempting to break into the movie business.

Career

In 2009, John made his television debut on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” but it wasn’t until 2012 that he made his film debut as Johnny Outrageous in the comedy “Eugene!” opposite Eugene Mirman, Andre Blake, and Jessica Chaffin.

John was cast to play the lead role in the comedy series “My Drunk Aunts,” but after its pilot episode, no network picked it up. In the same year, he voiced Linda Belcher in the episode “Fugue and Riffs” of the animated action comedy series “Archer.” After playing Pinhead in the short horror film “Hellraiser: Origins,” written and produced by Mike Le Han, John appeared in “Pact,” a film about three childhood friends who establish a suicide pact, and then one of them carries it out 18 years later.

In 2015, John provided the voice of one of the main characters for the animated action comedy episode “The GayFather” of “The Awesomes,” and he later provided the voice of Xyler for three episodes of “Gravity Falls.” John first appeared as Jeff Sleazy on a single episode of the humor talk program “Comedy Bang! Bang!” in the same year. The following year, in 2016, he played D in the drama film “Paint It Black,” which received mixed reviews but won one award.

One of John’s most recent roles was in the critically acclaimed animated comedy series “The Simpsons” episode “My Way or the Highway to Heaven” in 2018. He was also recently chosen to voice Linda Belcher (again) in the upcoming animated adventure comedy film “Bob’s Burgers: The Movie,” which is scheduled to arrive in theaters on April 9, 2021.

John is a YouTuber as well. He started his channel on March 24, 2006, and it currently has close to 30,000 subscribers. His five videos have received a total of almost 2.5 million views. He is also a musician, and “Looking,” which he released on May 17, 2019, is possibly most recognized for it.

Relationship Status

Although John prefers to keep the details of his romantic relationships private, he has admitted numerous times that he is gay, and many of his followers have reported seeing him holding the hand of a guy as they walked through the streets of Los Angeles.

John announced his engagement to a man on his Twitter account on July 14, 2018, and although he hasn’t spoken about their nuptials, it is widely accepted that they exchanged vows sometime in the middle of 2019.

According to an interview he gave to the magazine “Impose,” John hasn’t been “gay” his entire life. He was straight in college and dating the hottest female there. He came to terms with his sexual orientation after college and told his mother, who was there to support him.
