The 12:12 diet
This diet is a time-restricted eating or TRE in short. In this, the dieter does intermittent fasting. The amount of calories for the day are consumed within a specified time period. And in this case, it is 12 hours window period for eating and 12 hours of fasting. For instance, one can have the last meal of the day at 8 pm and after that fast until next day morning 8 am. There should be no eating overnight.
Once you are comfortable with this regime, you can increase the fasting period to 14 hours and then 16 hours. This would shorten your window period to eat to 10 hours and 8 hours respectively.
Most adults fast only for 9 hours in a day and eat for 15 hours. The fasting time is not enough to allow the tissues to repair and could be the reason for long term health issues and stress in the body physiology.
But with 12:12 time restricted eating, there is enough time for the body cells to repair. The dieter consumes lesser calories and thus loses body fat and body weight. Moreover, it keeps the person alert in the day and he or she has a better mood too.

But with this diet, it is vital that the dieter should include foods that are nutritious and provides them with all the essential nutrients that the body requires.
This simple fasting rule is an effective way to lose weight. But it is not for everyone. Children below the age of 18 years should not do intermittent fasting. People who are on some chronic medications should also avoid it. This intermittent fasting is also not for pregnant ladies or breastfeeding mothers.
