When pain lasts in the body for more than 3 months, it is chronic pain. It can be after an injury or might be due to a disease or just due to the aging process.
Whatever the reason, it makes life uncomfortable and hard to live. Certain foods could relieve this pain.
Chronic pain
Any pain is bad. And if the pain lasts longer it is worse. Chronic pain lasts more than three months. It might affect any part of the body.
The severity of the pain may vary. And the causes also differ. Young people might have it after injuries and this is common in athletes. Certain diseases such as ankylosing spondylitis and fibromyalgia also cause this type of pain.
The normal aging process also gives rise to body inflammation in muscles and bones and hence long-lasting pain.
A lot of drugs are prescribed for this prolonged pain. But they come with side effects and are best reserved for excruciating and unbearable pain.
Physiotherapy and certain gadgets also help in the relief of this pain. But they need money and time. Fortunately, certain foods are beneficial in pain relief and can be added to the daily diet for the benefits.
Healthy fats
Fats are not good for the body and can give rise to metabolic syndrome. But certain fats are healthy for the body. Dietitian Sydney Greene shared details of such fats.
She suggests adding omega-3 fatty acids-containing foods to the regular diet to overcome such prolonged incurable pains. Foods that are rich in these fatty acids include flax seeds, walnuts, and oily fish. Sydney opines:
“Omega-3s help supports a healthy immune system,”
There is scientific backing as well to this suggestion.
Green leafy vegetables
The green leaves have a lot of magnesium in them. This micronutrient helps in relieving muscle spasms, and pain and has anti-inflammatory properties.
The beta-carotene in them also overcomes body inflammation and thus brings down the pain. American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine had an article that revealed that people who consumed green leaves in their diet daily had a 400% decline in their C-reactive protein level in the blood. This marker is for inflammation.
Fruits and vegetables
Let fruits and vegetables be part of your daily diet in a significant amount. Consume them in all colors. These are rich in antioxidants and these have a great role in anti-inflammation. Sydney states:
“Consuming as many colors as possible in one day is a great way to ensure you are consuming loads of polyphenols and antioxidants which help fight inflammation,”
No alcohol
Alcohol will make you forget the pain for a short time but the pain will not go away. It causes and increases body inflammation. Sydney urges:
“Although a glass of wine may take away the pain at the moment, long term, it will only increase pain levels,”
“Alcohol is toxic and excess consumption will increase inflammation throughout the body.”
