This charcoal lemonade is a wonderfully nutritious, detoxifying variation on a classic drink that takes only 3 minutes to prepare.
The lemonade’s extremely dark color comes from activated charcoal, as do all of its incredible health advantages.
Uh, yeah. This charcoal lemonade may appear strange. Even revolting? Maybe I’m a little early for Halloween?
But this healthy detox drink has completely won me over. Because a) it doesn’t taste nutritious, and b) it doesn’t taste “black,” as if it’s been charred or burned.
I believe in living a holistic lifestyle, yet I couldn’t drink something that tasted charred, as when I overcook something. Whoops.
Oh, and I’m going to tell you right now!
What is the flavor of charcoal lemonade?
Lemonade with charcoal tastes like lemonade. That’s it! There’s nothing gritty, dark, charcoal, smoky, or burnt about it.
Regular charcoal or char is not the same as activated charcoal. The latter are carcinogens, but activated charcoal aids in detoxification, and digestion, and even successfully treated my stomach flu. Really! It’s all mine! It was unbelievable.
Activated charcoal is created from a variety of sources, including bone char, coconuts, and olive pits.
It’s heated to a high temperature to “activate” it, altering its structure and providing the fantastic health advantages that make people drink black lemonade.
The nicest aspect (perhaps?) is that it has no taste at all, and the powder is so fine that it simply blends into most liquids. Introducing… charcoal lemonade!
Why Is This Recipe So Delicious?
- This recipe requires only four ingredients and three minutes to prepare.
- This lemonade is packed with activated charcoal, which helps with everything from digestion to heart health, anti-aging to stomach illnesses, and hangovers (Really!).
- This charcoal lemonade is naturally paleo and vegan because it is sweetened with maple syrup.
- Liquid keto sweeteners like monk fruit or stevia provide a simple keto option.
Activated Charcoal’s Health Benefits
On its own, I’m completely smitten with activated charcoal.
Here’s another amusing tale: I had the stomach flu a while back and discovered while lamenting my impending death, that activated charcoal may actually absorb the illness.
For thousands of years, it has been used to bind toxins, heavy metals, and even poisons and eliminate them from your body.
So I swallowed a couple of capsules after a few rounds of vomiting. That was the end of it! I was no longer vomiting. Isn’t it incredible? I was taken aback. I’m entirely and utterly astounded.
Activated charcoal also has the following advantages:
- Toxins, medicines, heavy metals, and poisons are absorbed and flushed from the body, resulting in anti-aging and improved digestion.
- Help with hangovers! Really!
- Improved cardiovascular health
- Kidney function has improved.
- Fish odor syndrome is reduced.
- Can help to lower cholesterol levels
- When applied topically, the skin improves.
Is it healthy to drink charcoal lemonade?
Yes, please! The advantages of activated charcoal are discussed above. This charcoal lemonade becomes a fantastic health refreshment when activated charcoal is combined with the detoxifying properties of lemon juice.
How Do You Make Charcoal Lemonade?
- It’s incredibly simple. To begin, combine all of the ingredients except the water in a mixing bowl: lemon juice, maple syrup, and charcoal powder. Whisk thoroughly.
- Taste after adding the water; if needed, add additional maple syrup or lemon juice. Serve chilled.
- If you want to consume the charcoal lemonade later, just whisk it before serving to reintegrate the powder.
Charcoal Powder: How to Use It
You can use 1/2 teaspoon of either bulk charcoal powder (not in capsules) or capsules.
Alternatively, if you’re using charcoal capsules, carefully open them over the drink container or pitcher. Because charcoal is plainly very black, go carefully and cautiously.
Make it Keto-friendly, low-carb, and sugar-free.
Simply substitute the maple syrup with your preferred sugar-free sweetener to make this charcoal lemonade keto, low carb, or sugar-free.
I prefer liquid monk fruit or stevia, and I used roughly 1 teaspoon of liquid monk fruit to make this keto-friendly charcoal lemonade.
