Biography

Start of Fitness Journey

Günter Schlierkamp was nurtured on his family’s farm in Olfen, Nordrhein-Westfalen (Germany), where he was born on February 2nd, 1970.

He assisted with many physically demanding tasks as a young child, increasing his strength.

Gunter developed a passion for bodybuilding at the age of 16 and began idolizing heroes like Arnold Schwarzenegger after viewing “Conan the Barbarian” and “Pumping Iron.”

The German started his fitness career in 1986 when he first entered a gym.

Inaugural Competition

He utilized this to his advantage and started concentrating on growing stronger and bigger.

He had naturally more defined muscles than others his age due to spending his childhood helping his family on the farm.

After 4 years of establishing himself in the group of weight lifters, Gunter had started to develop an excellent physique.

The young guy competed in his first competition, the 1990 German Championships, in the Junior division, to become a professional bodybuilder.

In his first competition, Gunter won the judges’ favor and outperformed his rivals to take home the first-place trophy. This gave him the drive he required to advance to the following stage of his fitness journey.

Card Pro

Günter Schlierkamp was motivated by his first triumph and spent the following two years working hard to develop his package.

He entered his second competition in 1992, competing in the European Amateur Championships.

Gunter duplicated his achievement and added another prize to his collection. But a year later, he achieved his greatest success to date.

Gunter’s first opportunity to transition from an amateur to a professional athlete came in 1993 when he took the stage at the World Amateur Championships.

He had not only defeated the majority of the world’s brightest talents by winning this competition, but he had also gotten his Pro Card, fulfilling his lifelong ambition to become a professional bodybuilder.

Depart for America

He won two more shows over the following four years and finished highly in five additional competitions. The German was acknowledged as a rising talent in the sector by the end of 1995.

Gunter decided to move to the United States in 1996 to advance his bodybuilding profession.

He participated in events like the IFBB Arnold Classic and IFBB Night of Champions that year.

Despite not taking first place, he managed to finish 11th in a lineup that featured Shawn Ray, Flex Wheeler, and Kevin Levrone.

Retirement

Over the following ten years, Gunter entered 31 additional shows. His career highlight was winning the 2002 GNC Show of Strength, defeating competitors like Ronnie Coleman in the process.

He finished highly in practically every competition.

However, after finishing eighth in the 2006 Mr. Olympia competition, he decided to retire.

Acting

Gunter entered the film industry after leaving his bodybuilding profession behind; the German appeared in the movie “Beerfest.”

Gunter used to work out five times per week, taking a day off on Sundays and midweek.

He targeted each muscle individually since he thought this exercise would have the finest effects on his body.

  5. Meal 5 – 90 grams of whey protein, sometimes cottage cheese

Gunter grew up idolizing Arnold Schwarzenegger, and after viewing “Conan the Barbarian” and “Pumping Iron,” he was motivated to develop a body resembling that of the Austrian Oak.

He also gives his parents credit for instilling in him the value of hard work, which provided him with the discipline he required to maintain his demanding lifestyle as a bodybuilder.
