Wait until you try slow frying Little Smokies in this sweet and tangy sauce. They are already quite wonderful.

These tiny weenies are bursting with flavor thanks to the addition of barbecue sauce, grape jelly, and sriracha.

This delicious recipe has everything you could ask for in a quick snack for gatherings or tailgating. For the ideal tailgating dinner, serve alongside potato salad!

What are Little Smokies?

These tiny individuals are sometimes known as cocktail sausages or cocktail weenies. In the chilled meat area of most supermarkets, you may find Little Smokies, which are little smoked pig sausages.

They are equally simple to make as hot dogs. They can be boiled, fried, or microwaved. Or, you might use a crockpot to slowly cook them in a delicious sauce and serve them hot, as in this recipe.

They make ideal appetizers because they are bite-sized. When placed over rice or inside little slider buns, they also form a simple dinner or lunch.

All ingredients should be combined in a pot. Cook on low for around 20 minutes, stirring every so often.

Variations

  • Apple jelly, marmalade, or cranberry sauce can all be used in place of grape jelly with similar success.
  • Substitute ketchup or chili sauce for the barbecue sauce.
  • Little smokies can be exchanged for cooked meatballs (or both!). Alternatively, smoked sausage or chopped hot dogs can be used in this dish.
  • Replace the sauce with homemade or store-bought sweet and sour sauce.

How to Cook Little Smokies

These tiny smokies pair wonderfully with all types of toast when served as tiny sliders, just like pigs in a blanket. Since the sauce is of the sweet and sour variety, it tastes well over rice as well.

Leftovers?

The shelf life of leftovers is up to four days in the refrigerator or four months in the freezer. Store in freezer bags or firmly closed containers.

It is simple to reheat food in the microwave or oven without the need to thaw it first. These Smokies are a perfect example of the adage “good things come in little packages.”
