A spaghetti pie is an ideal recipe for a weekday dinner that the whole family can enjoy, as well as for satisfying the appetites of a large number of ravenous visitors.
This recipe for spaghetti pie incorporates all of the most comfortable elements of a traditional Italian dish, including pasta, cheese, a flavorful meat sauce, and even more cheese!
Along with a warm loaf of garlic bread, serve this dish with a green salad that has been dressed with Italian vinaigrette. After all, when it comes to making spaghetti pie, it’s all about sticking to the fundamentals with minimum effort.
Spaghetti Pie Ingredient Prep
The dish known as “spaghetti pie” tastes the same as its name suggests. A crust consisting of spaghetti and cheese, topped with our preferred Homemade Spaghetti Sauce and additional cheese.
After being baked until bubbly, the entire thing is cut into pieces and served in the style of a pie.
What exactly goes into a spaghetti pie?
The tiered appearance of spaghetti pie casserole, as well as the flavors, make me think of lasagna, however, I believe it is simpler to cook.
Crust
- The “crust” consists of noodles, eggs, and cheese that have been combined.
- As a result of the eggs’ ability to bind the ingredients together, the cooked spaghetti pie can be readily divided into wedges.
- In this dish, we use spaghetti, but you may substitute any long pasta you like.
Sauce
- This dish makes use of a modified version of my go-to recipe for spaghetti sauce.
- Make sure the sauce has thickened by reducing it over low heat.
- You are welcome to include diced vegetables such as bell peppers, mushrooms, and zucchini in the dish.
Cheeses
- This recipe has a creamy texture thanks to the use of ricotta. Incorporate any of your preferred herbs into this layer.
- Ricotta can be substituted with cottage cheese if you choose. Because cottage cheese contains a little bit more moisture than regular cheese, you might want to drain it a little bit before eating it.
- It is possible to prepare this dish without the layer of ricotta if time is of the essence.
How to Make a Pie with Spaghetti
One of the things that I appreciate most about this recipe for spaghetti pie is that it makes a fantastic dinner that can be prepared in advance and is ready to eat at a moment’s notice.
Unbaked, it can be stored for up to two days in the refrigerator before going bad.
- After cooking the spaghetti noodles until they are firm to the bite (they will continue to cook slightly in the oven), combine them with beaten eggs and grated cheese. Put the mixture into a pie pan with a deep dish.
- After the hamburger has been browned, add the tomato sauce and pasta sauce (or marinara sauce), and stir to combine. Continue to simmer to thicken.
- On top of spaghetti noodles, alternate layers of ricotta and meat sauce. Put cheese on top, then bake it.
Leftover
The leftover spaghetti pie can be stored in the refrigerator for about three to four days. Reheat in the microwave or oven until it reaches the desired temperature (time will vary based on portion sizes).
The leftovers can be frozen in individual servings and used for lunches later. Defrost it overnight in the refrigerator, then heat it in the microwave until it’s completely hot.
When it comes to meals that can be made ahead of time and stored in the freezer, spaghetti pie is nearly the epitome of perfection. Simply prepare it in the manner outlined in this article, excluding the baking step.
Put it in the refrigerator rather than the freezer. After it has been frozen for the desired amount of time, remove it from the dish and place it in a large plastic bag.
Alternatively, you may freeze it in a disposable aluminum foil pan to make cleanup and gift-giving much simpler.
It is ready to be baked immediately after being removed from the freezer. Bake for another 30–45 minutes after adding this time. The cheesy and flavorful spaghetti pie is always a hit when it’s brought to the table.
