Homemade Beef Patty Melt
Butter-grilled bread, two beef patties, caramelized onions, cheese, and sauce are sandwiched together.

Ingredients
- 2 small onions sliced
- 4 tablespoons butter divided
- 8 slices sourdough (or rye bread)
- 16 slices of swiss cheese or cheddar
- ΒΌ cup thousand islands dressing optional
- grainy mustard (optional)

- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- salt & pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a sizable frying pan, combine 2 tablespoons of butter and chopped onions. For about 20 to 25 minutes, cook onions over low heat until they are golden. Prepare the remaining ingredients in the meantime.
- Add salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce to the beef. Divide into 4 patties with shapes resembling bread.
- Heat a pan with 1 tablespoon butter over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 3 to 4 minutes on each side, depending on how done you like them.
- Butter the bread slices on both sides lightly. Place the buttered side of the bread in a skillet or on a griddle.
- Include mustard and dressing. Add cheese, onions, then the beef patty on top.
- Place the second slice of bread on top and broil it until it is hot, melted, and the bread is just barely browned on each side.
