Departing Serbia

Gornji Milanovac, a small Serbian town, is where Jelena was born. She began her training when she was 16 years old and never stopped. As Jelena recalls, the gyms in Serbia were compact, underequipped, and tough.

She recalls being one of the first females in her hometown to begin weight training. Growing up, she was always a skinny girl, and she quickly developed a strong interest in building a stronger body.

Jelena didn’t take her training seriously at first, but she soon came to understand that she was capable of far more than she had ever thought.

She decided to start competing in figure shows after seeing the results pick up.

Jelena immigrated to the US from Gornji Milanovac, Serbia when she was 20 years old. He remembered the gyms being considerably bigger with more equipment, so her transition was simple.

The Path To Success

Jelena Abbou describes her shift to competition as an exciting one;

“The voyage was lengthy and amazing. Once I began competing, I was unable to quit. I’m simply in love with the activity. In 2006, I achieved my objective of becoming an IFBB.

The Olympia was my next aim, which I accomplished three times. and received two invitations to The Arnold Classics. Once as an IFBB figure pro and once as a bikini pro.
