Discover how to manufacture your own almond flour at home! Then use it in gluten-free baking recipes or to make ordinary baked goods moister.
It is a great product to have in your cupboard whether you’re gluten-free or not. It’s paleo-friendly, just like coconut flour, and is frequently used in grain-free baking recipes.
My uses for it, however, do not stop there. To give typical baked goods an extra-moist feel, I like to mix them with all-purpose or whole wheat pastry flour.
I’ve recently started manufacturing my own flour at home. The entire process takes less than a minute from start to finish, and it’s significantly less expensive than buying it at the shop.
Almond Flour: A Step-by-Step Guide
It’s simple and quick to make this flour at home. This is what you must do:
- 1 1/2 cups blanched slivered almonds are a good place to start. Blanched almonds have a finer, more delicate texture than regular almonds since the skins are removed during the blanching process.
- In a high-powered blender, puree the almonds for about 10 seconds, or until they resemble bread crumbs. Process for a few seconds more after stirring to release any clumps or large chunks at the blender’s base. Avoid blending them for too long, or they’ll turn into almond butter!
That’s it! It’s important to note that nut flour cannot be used as a 1:1 replacement for all-purpose flour or a gluten-free flour blend. Instead, substitute this flour for an almond meal or flour in any recipe that asks for it. Then, for up to 3 months, keep leftovers in an airtight jar in a cold, dry location.
Recipes using Almond Flour
You’ll find a plethora of uses for almond flour once you have it on hand! To make a gluten-free topping for an apple crumble or other fruit crisp, toss it with almonds, brown sugar, and old-fashioned oats, or shape it into energy balls like the Matcha Pistachio Date Balls.
Alternatively, make gluten-free cookies, muffins, or pancakes with it alone or in combination with other gluten-free flours.
I also like to mix it with regular all-purpose or whole wheat flour to make extra-moist cakes, cookies, and other baked goods.

- Stir to break up any large clumps or nut fragments that have formed at the blender’s base. If you puree your almonds too much, they’ll turn into almond butter.
- Almond flour or almond meal can be used in any recipe that calls for it.

- You cannot substitute any nut flour for all-purpose flour or a gluten-free flour mix 1:1.
