I wanted to upscale my toast, and I think I did a fairly decent job at it. These are a beautiful complement to any dinner table thanks to the combination of avocado slices, cherry tomatoes, basil, and melted mozzarella cheese.

Wait…What Is The Difference between Crostini & Bruschetta?

Italian appetizers that are incredibly popular and simple to prepare both have sweet or savory toppings on toast or grilled bread slices. The two barely differ from one another. It is found in bread:

  • variety of bread
  • slices’ sizes
  • toasting method

The word bruschetta, which means “to roast over coals” in Italian, refers to huge, thick slices of bread that are grilled, customarily over a fire, to produce attractive charred edges.

The bread is then rubbed with a raw garlic clove, drenched in olive oil, and sprinkled with salt in large flakes. The world’s best garlic bread, essentially.

Crostini, often known as “little toasts,” are typically thinner and smaller (typically cut from a baguette), cooked in the oven, and topped with savory spreads, cheese, or vegetables. Consider finger meals or small-bites snacks.

Where one slice of bruschetta can pretty much keep you pleased; 2-3 crostini would accomplish the same job. Both can be enjoyed with a glass (or two) of wine as well.

Use a large sourdough loaf and cut your slices into thick 1 1/2-inch slices, or thicker, if you want to transform these into an Avocado Caprese Bruschetta.

How Should The Ideal Crostini Be Prepared?

  1. Start with fresh ingredients. For these Avocado Caprese Crostini, I used vine-ripened cherry tomatoes, fresh baby bocconcini, basil leaves plucked from the garden, and Hass avocados.
  2. Drizzle both sides of your bread with olive oil and bake for 15 – 20 minutes until just golden, flipping toasts midway through to crisp all over. Don’t leave them in any longer because you will be returning them into the oven to broil your cheese until it’s melted and the last thing you want to do is end up with burnt toast.
  3. Now, I rub the warm toasts with a cut side of garlic BECAUSE I love garlic. This step is optional.

Add the other ingredients to the crostini appetizers, then BROIL (or GRILL for Australians) until the cheese just starts to melt. Since I didn’t want hot avocado slices, I didn’t keep them in there for very long. Only enough for the cheese to melt!
