Even though I adore ham, I almost prefer the leftovers so I may prepare this dish!

Our favorite seasonings are combined with extremely finely diced ham and mayonnaise in Ham Salad Recipe! I enjoy eating pickles sliced up (or sweet relish) with a dash of mustard.

Serve this with crackers or as a sandwich on bread after a few seconds in the food processor and a few excellent add-ins.

A Traditional Favorite

Every family appears to have its take on ham salad. Although I still enjoy it that way, growing up, we usually made it with canned ham. Nowadays, I prefer to use leftover ham.

  1. 3 simple components + your preferred additions (like pickles, sweet pickle relish, mustard, or onions).
  2. can be prepared with canned or leftover ham. Easter or Christmas ham leftovers taste wonderful when prepared this way.
  3. Easily prepared ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for a few days for quick snacks and lunches.
  4. fantastic with crackers or for sandwiches.

Although we use leftover ham, this ham salad spread recipe is extremely tasty. In the summer, we enjoy serving it for lunch along with homemade chicken salad sandwiches and cucumber salad.

Making a Ham Salad

Whether you have a food processor or not, homemade ham salad is a quick lunch solution. Your only task is to:

  1. Dice the ham finely or pulse it in a food processor.
  2. Place the ham in a bowl and combine it with the remaining ingredients (per the recipe below).
  3. Serve the ham mixture to guests in rolls, on bread, or even as a cracker dip. Serve it over salad or in lettuce wraps to maintain its low-carb composition.

That’s all there is to it, in reality!

Various Ham Salads

Be imaginative! Add your preferred flavors after a ham and mayonnaise foundation. Here are several variations on this straightforward ham salad dish as ham is already salty:

Snacks and lunches: Serve it with a side of potato chips and on toast, a slider bun, or crackers.

feeding an audience? Combine leftover ham with diced hard-boiled eggs to stretch it further.

Just a little ham salad is left? Put it in a small dish, blend it with a little pickle juice to a finer consistency, and serve it as a dip.

On rye, grilled ham, and cheese. Grill the ham mixture after adding some cheddar cheese shreds. A tasty lunch will result from the melting of the flavors.

Make it into a dish. Use your go-to ham salad recipe as the foundation for a ham pasta salad or macaroni salad for dinner. To add some acidic flavors, dice some sweet gherkins or dill pickles and stir in some Dijon mustard.

A ham macaroni salad also pairs well with diced onion and bell pepper, jars of pimento, or roasted red pepper. If you are creating ham pasta salad, use rotini or penne.

Advice on Freezing Ham Salad

The best way to serve ham salad is cold. In the refrigerator, it only lasts a few days.

It can be frozen in an airtight container if you intend to store it for a longer period. Take out of the freezer, thaw overnight in the refrigerator, and drain any liquid. If necessary, add a teaspoon of fresh mayonnaise.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound cooked ham diced
  • ¾ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 cup celery diced
  • black pepper to taste

Optional add-ins

  • 3 tablespoons sweet relish
  • 2 teaspoons mustard or dijon
  • ½ cup dill pickles chopped
  • 1 green onion finely sliced
  • 2 tablespoons dill pickle juice

Instructions

  1. In a food processor, add diced ham, and pulse a few times to chop. However, you don’t want it to be a paste.
  2. Place in a bowl and stir in the other ingredients until well combined and creamy.
  3. Use to make sandwiches with ham salad or serve with crackers.

Notes

If you don’t have a food processor, a knife can be used to chop the ham very finely.

This recipe already has enough salt in the ham, so I don’t add any more to it. Taste and season as desired.

You can have this ham salad with bread, buns, crackers, or even a green salad.
