Biography
Many Different Sports
From the age of six to ten, Nelson participated in gymnastics and swimming as his initial sports activities. As he entered high school, he continued to advance by competing in a variety of different sporting events.
Nelson was a pro at running, soccer, basketball, volleyball, badminton, and table tennis. From the age of 10 to 14, he also loved competitive Judo, but eventually switched to boxing. He began to learn about free weight and strength training at this point.
Nelson continued to compete in boxing matches while transitioning from boxing to kickboxing. He also practiced Brazilian jiu-jitsu to compete in mixed martial arts.
Up until the age of 18, he played soccer in different clubs, continued to engage in amateur bouts, and studied mixed martial arts.
Ankle Injury
Nelson enrolled in college at the age of 18 to pursue a career in sports. Nelson’s left knee was hurt, which is unfortunate. To fully recuperate, he underwent an operation that prevented him from participating in sports for a year.
Nelson visited the gym and seriously began strength training during his recovery period. He resumed playing soccer once his knee had fully recovered and did so until he was 22 years old.
He obtained his certification in Personal Training, Functional Training, Nutrition, and other fitness-related areas at this time.
A Career in the Profession
After receiving his certifications and with years of expertise under his belt, Nelson began working for two years in Lisbon, Portugal, and various other gyms. Later, he returned to Portugal, where he worked in boxing clubs and coached people in their homes and parks.
Nelson Lopes spent six months of 2009 working in Marseille, France, where he continued to coach clients on the go in parks, offices, fitness centers, and residences. After these six months, Nelson returned to Portugal.
Nelson was persuaded to go to London by a close friend at the beginning of 2010 after receiving a job offer as a personal trainer there. He was responsible for overseeing the company’s whole Personal Training division.
Nelson began to establish a reputation in 2012 and began to appear in well-known fitness publications.
Competition Background
Nelson participated in the UKBFF in 2012 and finished in second place overall. In 2013, he won the IFBB Portugal Championship. His desire to compete and further develop his physique didn’t end there.
Nelson focused on the 2014 Arnold Classic in Madrid, finishing a respectable second. Nelson took a break to work on his symmetry and definition, and then he returned in 2016 to win the Muscle Model title at the Diamond Cup in Liverpool, England.
Now in Nelson’s Life
At a prestigious London gym, Nelson Lopes is now employed as a personal trainer.
He aspires to give back to the fitness community in the same way that it enabled him to define his career by assisting others in developing their fantastic physiques while continuing to work hard and display his renowned “abs of steel.”
Depending on whether I want to lose weight or not, I often train 4 to 6 times a week. If so, I up the level of my cardio exercise.
Training
Nelson enjoys working out seven days a week. He asserts that activities other than heavy lifting are possible. Throughout the week, he performs “smaller-detail” training, core exercises, and stretching.
He’ll spend a lot of time working out at a high intensity doing supersets and pyramid drop sets. Nelson enjoys doing HIIT as his cardio to maintain healthy body composition and low body fat.
“In terms of cardio I love HIIT on the bicycle 2 to 4 times a week for 30 to 45 minutes.”

Nutrition
Nelson will use a carb cycling or ketogenic diet to maintain a strong, lean body all year long. To get as slim as possible for his competitions or picture shoots, he’ll primarily adopt the keto diet.
The keto diet is beneficial for fat loss, but Nelson notes that it should not be followed for extended periods because the body needs carbohydrates to grow muscle.
